I really liked her here. Some of her deliveries are still a little clunky but goddamn that final scene was killer*. * Im sorry
Insane hot takes. I’ve seen 5 several times over and already know this one topped it on every level with one viewing. And that’s even with them not getting Neve back. The meta lines and the humor were so much more tasteful and subtle. The cast was better. While it wasn’t my initial guess in this thread for the killer, I had the real one pegged early on after only a few scenes and was fine with it. The twist made sense, stayed Scream with new flares, but gave logical explanation to the shrine, motivation, Kirby showing up, all of which were my most worrisome thoughts. I loved it. Curious how they wrap it all up. A certain surviving character with a very convincing death scene should very convincingly not make it to the next one off camera.
tell me why I was about to screen shot this and text it to you before I realized it was you that posted. but Jesus I hate Ethan more now.
Also while Gayle felt lifeless in the last one, they wrote her dialogue and involvement very well. Feel like she hasn’t shined in one of the films since 2.
Film looked fantastic, but the meta stuff fell flat for me. This really wasn’t that exciting or scary, I think I might have aged out of this series.
Grabbed tickets to see this tomorrow evening. I loved 5 and am excited to see reviews for this one be kind of all over the place
The Core Four were awesome. Really liked most of the supporting characters too. Loved how violent and bloody this one was. The subway scene was super tense, hasn't been a scene like that since Sidney and Hallie in the police car in Scream 2. Third act was over the top batshit, but I was completely fine with it. Every third act in the franchise has had some camp thrown into the mix. Yeah it was pretty much another revenge motive but it worked for the direction the story went in. As of now it's 1 > 4 > 6 > 5 = 2 > 3 for me. I wouldn't be surprised if this surpasses 4 with more viewings. Just had so much fun with it. I almost want to say I like 5 more than 2 because I really just don't care for the third act the more I see it, but the opening scene, Cici scene, Gale chase scene, and the police car scene are all still really strong so I'm torn lol But yeah, Scream 6 ruled
Haven’t seen the new one yet, but 5 is what got my wife into the movies. She watched that one first. But 4 and 5 are her favorites lol.
Same. I legitimately wondered at that part if they were just gonna double down on that theory being somehow true and make it a reality.
Still thinking about this and want to try and see it again soon. The opening kill was so inventive and fresh and I legitimately thought at first that they might go super duper unconventional and allow us to know who at least one of the killers was throughout the film. A lot of hang-ups with the final act still ( I knew the cop had something to do with it [shout out rich guy from New Girl] but something about Quinn and Ethan's reveals didnt stick for me. There was a cringey quality in that moment that went beyond goofiness or camp to me but hopefully that smooths over in subsequent viewings. Also didn't love this just being spillover from Richie's death, seems a bit recycled but it makes sense since it emulates S2 in a lot ways with the familial themes. Also, I am all for suspension of disbelief in these movies but there is no way Chad should have survived 5, let alone what happens to him in 6. Seems silly compared to some of the other stabbings throughout the series that have actually resulted in death. He was stabbed repeatedly by two blades over and over.) Overall I am very glad this is being received so well and will watch every single one of these that they continue to make.
This movie was a lot of fun. The New York setting was refreshing, the returning cast members nailed it (especially Jenna, Jasmine, and Hayden), the kills were solid, and it felt like the story didn't let up on the gas all that much compared to previous installments. Liana Liberato is a great actress, so I'm a bit disappointed Quinn was a pretty flat character. I get it, though. Also, Gale should've died. As for the Ghostface reveal, this was pretty much my reaction:
I think I screwed myself on the reveal. After the opening kill, and the counting down of the masks, I wanted it to be Stu so bad that I convinced myself it had to be him. Made the reveal that much worse for me unfortunately.
My thoughts from the horror thread also At minimum Chad and Gale should’ve really died. I turned to my gf and said wow they’re really killing off everyone outside of the main two sisters, only for every single one of them to miraculously live.
I was really glad it was not Stu. The one spoiler that I read ahead of the movie which was told by ViewerAnon on twitter was that The studio had actually gotten Neve a deal that got her to cameo at the end of the film. There would’ve been two killers revealed in the third act that wouldn’t have made it; and then a third who was pulling the strings and making the calls to victims apparently calls Sidney wherever she is hiding with her family and that would’ve been a cliffhanger for 7. While this not becoming true hurt a little bit, it really seemed to be something somebody either doubled down on and lied about having seen it in a test screening, or it was actually the original post-credits scene and they decided to swap out last minute.
I have a question about the opening. Probably something that makes more sense on second watch but -- So Jason and his roommate have a plan to kill the Carpenter sisters. Jason kills the professor, comes home and then one of the movie's main killers kills Jason. How do Detective Bailey, Quinn or Ethan know about what Jason and his roommate are planning?
And I won't ever lock in a take after just one watch but instant reaction... this is my favorite since the original. Right now I'd rank -- 1. Scream 2. Scream 2 3. Scream 4 4. Scream 3 5. Scream (2022) Honestly my number 2 and 3 spots could be flipped on any given day.
