It's technically a tradition since pt2 for my mom and I to see these opening day but she has a scheduling conflict tomorrow and Friday and I am not risking getting anything spoiled lol.
I probably won't see this until Saturday but may go Friday night. The theater near me is $20 a ticket on friday evenings though which is insane.
Reading through the Rotten Tomato review headlines, it sounds like this one is gonna be pretty violent. I thought 5 was maybe the most violent of the series and if this is more, then... bring it on. Got tix for 6:30 tomorrow night and will share spoiler'd thoughts!
Reviews have been super positive but the consensus that the ending loses steam or is kinda wack has me worried. Hoping it doesn’t damper the darker tone and kill count a la HKills.
I’ve always been interested in other perspectives regarding the violence in this franchise. To me, there’s a clear delineation between violence and gore. Imo, the original Scream still takes the cake in terms of boundary-pushing violence. The finale in the kitchen, alone, is fucking brutal. We’re seeing these two “high school” kids carrying out these acts without the presence of wit, self awareness, or comedy that crept into the franchise throughout the later installments.
Despite the change of scenery, Scream VI is less a sequel and more a stutter-step, a half-movie with some very satisfying stabbings but no real progress or even movement. It’s like treading water in gore. And to fully enjoy this “sequel to the requel,” you need to have watched most of the others. What a weird complaint in the AP review. Like yah...it has 6 in the title...you probably gotta see the others too.
Got tickets for tomorrow at an Alamo. Super excited. Hope everybody has fun and that critics are wrong about the ending.
