  1. Just made the mistake of skimming through the comments on an article about Neve not being in 6…

Soooo, just an idea here. But wouldn't the best swerve ever in the franchise be that Neve is actually in the movie and turns out to be Ghostface? Still trying to put together a decent motive though. Just saying...

Nah, Sidney can't be a killer. I do feel like she may make a surprise appearance though. Maybe in a video call or something? lol

  5. This is where I’m at. If she’s secretly in it at all it’s probably something tiny to set up 7 or something

Yeah Sidney as a killer would never make sense. Just let her have a big return in Scream 7

I always thought Gale as the killer would have made sense. Hungry for fame, but the Woodsboro murders was old news and she is trying to get a new story going so she creates it herself to get the 5 mins of fame back. But now she is too old

  8. I love these movies, but am in agreement that the motive hasn't been really great since the second film. I don't want or need fan service, I just want a really believable killer

4's motive reveal is easily my favourite since the original. don't think 2's motive was particularly good or believable lol

You didn’t think Billy’s mother wanting to avenge her son’s death was good or believable?

Remember though the series has always been a bit of a send up of other horror movies, so they've been hitting all the main motives we see in horror slasher types. Psychotic, revenge (with a twist), long lost bitter family member, fame/infamy + psycho jealous family member, and the reboot/motivated by the movies psycho.

So what major horror/slasher motive are we missing still? Whatever those are, it'll be one of htem haha

Also forgot that they've definitely been putting more energy into sending up other aspects besides the motive, especially in Scream 5. The whole "billy's illegitimate daughter" having hallucinations about him that "help" her win and overcome....great stuff lol

not really! not the way it's presented anyway. you could maybe do that big twist if we'd just seen her as Billy's mother and the surprise is she's the killer, but what we get is this double reveal of "this random auxiliary character who's done nothing all movie is Billy's mother and she's the killer!" and it falls pretty flat. her relationship with her son doesn't really resemble what we're told in Scream 1 at all either and it just feels like a very clumsy rabbit out of a hat

and then Timmy O's performance is great obviously but his motive is pretty much "he's crazy". not much going on there, I'm sure there was a good idea that got lost in the dozen rewrites Williamson had to do in under a year

Tbf, "he's crazy" was also Billy/Stu's motive haha. They were just straight up Psychopaths, with Billy having a more personal extra motive with Sidney's mom breaking up his parents marriage and etc.

Mickey was psycho who also wanted the fame of the trial and etc

Where tf is Mrs. Carpenter?? Did she even call her daughters to check in after the events of Scream 5?

I still think the worst motive and worst ghostface was Roman in Scream 3. I sometimes ignore/forget that film even exists

Cotton should've taken Roman out within the first 15 minutes of the film.

I dont even remember 3 it was so bad. Havent wanted to rewatch it in 20 years. When the best part of the film (for me) was the Jay and Silent Bob cameo, you know something is wrong. I thought Scream 2 wasnt great either. Scream 4 was probably the second best. I need to rewatch Scream 5 as its been close to a year.

Scream 4 and 5 are the best sequels, but the lens flare or whatever glow they have on scream 4 is annoying

Scream 4 and 5 veer too close to CW vibes for me and the meta-ness is just too on point and makes the dialogue seem incredibly unnatural for teenagers.

Scream 2 is the most fun but it has a ton problems near the end. Scream 3 is bad but Parker Posey does an incredible job.

I’m not sure they’ve made a “great” sequel to the original yet.

    2 is great shoot.

3 is fun for what it is. It’s an episode of Scooby Doo.

  25. I'm not as sucked in by the lore as other fans so what do I know, but I would rank the endings differently than I would rank the movies, which is interesting because I think the reveal is kind of what the films have become known for. 3 is my least favorite film (still fun), but I actually don't hate the ending.

    Films: 1 > 5 > 4 > 2 > 3
    Endings: 1 > 2 > 3 > 4 >5

I remember the killers, but the motives in 4 and 5 were forgettable imho
