Wow, I am shocked by how much I loved this. Thought the first thirty minutes or so were a bit shaky but by the end I was extremely in.
Dewey was always my favorite character, so I'm devastated. Still, I really enjoyed this and think it's a worthy addition to the series.
This was good! Super fun and exactly what you want from a Scream movie. Some of the "requel" talk was a little silly, but that's also part of the charm. These movies have the formula down to a science and they don't miss.
On second watch, I think my ranking is 1>2>5>4>3. 5 might even overtake 2 with some time. Really vicious and fun stuff in this one, although I think the sequel nails some of the meta stuff and references a little more tactfully. 4's not far behind, either. Just a blast of a franchise
I still like it, but don’t think I’d rank it above any of the previous films honestly. It leaned too heavily on the meta and references. What was always great about Wes’s work was that he could incorporate those aspects in his films and still make an original piece that stands on its own legs. I know Screen Junkies generally gets panned here but they hit the nail on the head with most of my gripes about the film.
Didn't go in with with much expectation but I liked it a lot. "i still prefer The Babadook" after shooting the villain in the head is an all time Scream one liner. I know a Scream 6 got greenlit but i don't know how much more meta-commentary about the current state of the horror genre this franchise can do. Which is why i think the installments of Screams are better spaced apart every 5-10 years. I have a feeling this franchise is eventually going to go just full on meta and pull a "Wes Craven's New Nightmare" where the cast plays themselves.
I know some people like to shit on David Arquette but he really had the best performance in this entire movie. Probably the best performance of his career TBH.
