I watched all of them last week after not seeing them for many years. is the general consensus that the third is the worst of them? That’s what I came away with after these viewings. Still enjoyed it for what it was though.
absolutely. 3 suffers so much from being the only one not written by Williamson, his original idea is so much better than what we got also 4 is my second favourite of the franchise these days. such a great movie
I also learned that Nev Campbell only had like 3 weeks to shoot all her stuff and that’s why she is barely in the first half of the movie.
it's kind of a complicated answer. there is at least one infamous leaked script for 2 (which had basically everyone that wasn't Sid, Dewey or Gale involved in orchestrating the killings, including Hallie and the boyfriend whose name I never remember). Williamson claims it's just a dummy script he wrote to keep the real ending a secret, though, so who knows how legitimate it really was as for 3, I'm unsure if a full script ever got out but Williamson detailed his infinitely better idea for it in an interview, which also apparently had Stu still alive and orchestrating the killings from jail: "In my original story for Scream 3, the killers were basically a fanclub of Woodsboro kids that had formed because of Stab 1 and Stab 2,” he tells me. “They were all doing the killings and the big surprise of the movie was when Sidney walked into the house after Ghostface had killed everyone … and they all rose up. None of them were actually dead and they’d planned the whole thing.”
I love Scream 3, it’s so much fun, the Hollywood and entitled male critiques are sharp, the ghost mom is scary as hell, Roman’s acting after the reveal is delicious, the ending with the door is beautiful, if it’s not my second favourite it’s a strong third “Why don’t you take some FUCKING responsibility?!” “FUCK YOU!” “FUCK YOU!!!”
Roman's actor is doing yeoman's work trying to make that reveal land but... the reveal is just so stupid, unnecessarily gross, and borderline ridiculous in how it frames him as THE REAL VILLAIN ALL ALONG. acting can't save that
