Glad it's not necessarily the comedic romp that the trailers make it seem. The book is pretty bleak.

Lee Pace is probably the hottest dude on the planet and they better not keep him masked for the entire movie

I was reading some very mixed reactions on Letterboxd and getting worried. Still holding out hope this is a bounce back from SoHo

i enjoyed this a solid deal, but it has it's problems. bit too long (maybe far too long), and somewhat muddled in the second half. it's also the edgar wright film that feels least like his own thing, like he has less of the juice than in the past. but it's not bad (and i'd certainly take it over his last one, especially since it doesn't fall off a cliff), glen is great, action's cool and i liked all the bigger performances. it's mostly not as light on its feet as past films of his. still hope people see it this weekend given that it won't really have legs once wicked for good takes over

Yeah, I think that’s a fair assessment. The first half is more interesting than the second and I think it has trouble pacing out all those days he’s on the run (Could have used a montage!). For me, it didn’t really feel like much of an Edgar Wright movie because most of his touchstones feel like they were tamped down or not there.

I like that they seemingly gave Wright a blank check, though, and he made good use of it. Everything in this feels tactile and gritty. Also, Cera and Domingo were great. And this is like the fourth or fifth movie where I say it needed more Katy O’Brian.

I'm still excited to see it, but Edgar really needs to make another comedy

I'd echo the comments about it feeling like the least Edgar Wright of his films, apart from Michael Cera's 10 minutes.

I enjoyed this a lot (apart from the 4DX which I just found distracting) and it felt very... timely? Timely is I think the word. There's bits that make you think of social media and generative AI, even though that's not what the film is saying, the relevance is there.

It's nice to have a studio-backed tentpole with a genuinely subversive message, but it might be a touch too reverential of the original short story for its own good.

Also - this only cost $110m - which is pretty impressive.

This ruled, critics are getting it wrong

but yea it prolly could use more if Edgar’s usually style. I forget if he has a consistent cinematographer?

This was a good time at the cinema. They could have trimmed a set piece and replaced it with a montage and then added some time to the ending. Maeve from Task needed more time to develop and we could have used more time after the plane crash. Definitely felt the least like an Edgar Wright film but still had his touches sprinkled throughout.

feels like he's been losing his directorial identity more and more with each movie

last night in soho felt like it could have been made by anyone

Bummer how much of his style is missing from this but I had fun. Some pacing issues aside

It’s less that he’s growing into a new style and more so that he’s becoming more anonymous

Man I LOVED this. Saw all the comments about it not feeling like one of his films and couldn’t disagree more. Has all the hallmarks of a Wright movie and I was on board.

    Didn’t love it.

Thought every character had just the worst dialogue. Cool, well made stuff as usual from Edgar Wright but bad script and really didn’t like Powell’s performance
