Considering their discography, influence and general popularity thanks to Fallon, I think they deserve their own thread. Been spinning their first 3 a lot recently, especially Things Fall Apart. This is probably one of my favourite songs (and videos) of all time...
People from the hip hop thread know that I love them and also that my hot take is that Game Theory is their best album.
The weird thing is, outside Things Fall Apart, I've always listened to bits and pieces of their work and always enjoyed what I heard, but never gave full albums a proper listen. That changed 2 weeks ago and now i'm giving each album the proper time they deserve.
Embarrassed to have only listened to Things Fall Apart for the first time today. I think I still prefer Game Theory, but I get why people consider this their masterpiece.
Things Fall Apart, Game Theory, How I Got Over are all amazing. Also really enjoy The Tipping Point and Undun...really pretty much all of their albums.
Listened to How I Got Over and Undun yesterday for the first time in years. Now I'm on a Roots kick and will be going back through their discography. Really hope we get a new album in the near future.
Been on another Roots tip recently. Mostly their first two, but also listened to The Tipping Point for the first time, really bloody good. Smooth, soulful Roots is the best Roots.
sad time to learn of this thread, but I'm here for it now. I'm not sure if it's popular or not, but I pretty much love everything from Phrenology til now, but have a really hard time getting into Things Fall Apart and Illadelph Halflife. Haven't listened to anything before those two
I can understand it. I got into them with Things Fall Apart, but enjoyed the few albums that came after it more at first. It wasn't until later in life when I went back around the first few albums that they really clicked with me and are now all timers in my eyes.
Amongst the sadness of Malik's passing, lets not forget we have the next instalment of Black Thoughts Streams of Thought out tomorrow. I haven't listened to the other two enough, need to change that.
I didn't even realise that was out tomorrow. psyched Thought's tribute to Malik was beautiful, had me tearing up RIP
