Sneaking Warren in the back door is kind of a bummer but WARREN ZEVON IS IN THE ROCK HALL!!!!

Bell and Kaye are way overdue and honestly Hopkins should have been inducted with The Stones eons ago

No Oasis, no care.

 

I’ve seen/heard this take put forth elsewhere, but the Rock Hall’s insistence on putting in every single Boomer rock act no matter how important, usually at the expense of extremely consequential ‘90s artists, is weird. I get that Oasis badmouthed the institution, and Mariah is probably running into the good old fashioned mix of sexism and “it’s not the pop hall of fame!” But cmon, those artists both matter so much more than Chubby Checker or Bad Company.

 

Mariah is not a very good artist. I'm fine with her waiting.

But if we're going to let in bands with a weak career and a good greatest hits (Foreigner) or one really good album (Frampton, Bad Company, Cyndi Lauper, Foreigner again) then may as well let her in.

 

Now that Heart, The Spinners, and Zevon are all in, who should be my go-to complaint. Probably Chic.

Or hell by their current standards I demand they add Boston!

 

I am lukewarm on her albums, but she's got a killer greatest hits, was hugely commercially dominant for a decade plus, has multiple iconic songs (including one of the few modern holiday touchstones, which will go to number 1 every year for the rest of time), and was/is undeniably influential. I don't see how that resume doesn't beat out "the guy who made 'The Twist.'"

 

Mine is the Counting Crows will never, ever get in.

 

Meh. R&RHoF has been a joke for a long time.

 

Checker is one of their most embarrassing selections. Dude seems like he was basically just a desperate trend hopper constantly trying to make a dance craze happen, and when it did, he milked it shamelessly.

Plus his version of "The Twist" is INSANELY inferior compared to the original by Hank Ballard and the Midnighters (who are in the Hall already).

 

Mariah Carey didn't invent the remix and, along with Janet Whitney and Madonna invent the modern pop star, to be disrespected this way
