This is classic. Danny is so good at not breaking when the most insane shit is being said 5" from his face.
Might be a hot take but it's VP for me. The story was actually interesting and it featured plenty of Goggins. Eastbound comes in at a close 2nd. Gemstones, while I loved it - suffered from lots of fun moments in a meandering plot with weird guest characters thrown in just because. Couldn't even tell you what was going on half the time - was just happy to be along for the ride and that's plenty fine.
Feels weird to be to come to this show for plot. Legit wouldn’t care if it was just random shit each episode as long as it was funny.
I still haven't watched E&D, just see all the clips on socials all the time. Really do need to go back and watch it. As much as I loved Vice Principals, I think Gemstones was better.
Eastbound, especially the first season, is one of the funniest shows ever made and still McBride/Hill's masterpiece imo, but Gemstones is a close second. I loved VP too but it's the one I've seen the least, I feel like I should rewatch that now actually
my lukewarm take is I hate blooper reels like this that are like half not bloopers and drowned out by music. Give me the classic 10 minute long gag reel and line o Ramas that the comedies of the 2000s would have on their DVDs. They’re probably fucking hilarious for this show
I just finished this. Very good, but the weakest of the three shows. Ultimately, "televangelists are corrupt" is pretty obvious so it doesn't offer much to riff on, which is why the show had to be so plot-heavy on villains and other things. The plot-driven stuff was never as fun in any of the shows as compared when it was just good joke construction and generally being silly. No one really cares if Kenny Powers gets back to the MLB but it is very funny when he shows up with a boombox to his friend's funeral, and it wasn't that interesting to find out who shot Gamby in Vice Principals but it was very funny to see him fight with students. McBride stepping back into more of a ensemble role doesn't help because you just want him or Goggins back when they are not there. BJ is someone who really shines from the ensemble, really committing to the bit of being so marginalized and borderline abused.
