It wasn’t as laugh out loud as I expected but they 100% nailed the aesthetic, attitude, clothing, word choice, etc... of these parasitic mega churches. And it was much darker than I thought it would be. Pumped to keep watching.
Behind the plot, maybe, killed, I wouldn't think so. Not sure Danny McBride running over his son would be a place the story would go lol.
Took me a while to get into the idea of shows where pretty much everybody sucks but Succession and this have done their part to convert me. I guess Mad Men was pretty much like that as well.
Thanks! I finished the game over the weekend and am ready to start again with a different House. Sorry, I mean: I am having finished the game and am being ready to start again
Interesting, just now realizing that Jody Hill isn't a part of this. Where's Ben Best been? EDIT: Wait Hill is an EP. But not writing/directing
The Righteous Gemstones: Jody Hill and David Gordon Green on New HBO Series Oh nevermind I guess. Just not on IMDB other than EP
It's weird because the credits said it was created solely by McBride, not the both of them, which is what I thought was the case. But I guess Hill and Green just helped developed the idea that Danny had? And then this says Hill will be directing but not Green? Would be surprised if he didn't direct at least one episode.
According to this we're getting 9 Breaking News - Comedy Series "The Righteous Gemstones" Debuts Aug. 18 on HBO | TheFutonCritic.com
Hill acted in the episode too lol. I was curious about Best too, they haven't associated with him since the second season of Eastbound. I did some research and found some thread on Reddit where a guy knows him personally and said he got way too into drugs/partying and McBride and Hill kind of cut ties. Obviously unconfirmed but I can see it being true honestly
Oh, and I forgot to share my opinion on the premiere. I instantly fell in love with it just like Eastbound and Vice Principals, I laughed out loud several times, especially the fucking part where he just ran them over in the van lmao. I actually think Adam Devine might be my favorite character so far, his delivery is always so funny and he and Danny are a perfect pairing Also interestingly this was the only hour long episode, next week's is a half hour and so is the one after
I mean, how could I not love this show? Eastbound and Down is one of my favorite all time shows. Vice Principals was great too, but I have even higher hopes for this one after the premier. The one thing Im not in love with is this is McBridges second show in a row with a masked mystery person.
