Sames. Nuts that these guys have been around that long. For anyone that needs convincing, Sputnik had Grandfather as the 8th best album of 2009 and I feel like I remember one of the mods, SowingSeason (the guy that reviewed shrines) has it as his 2nd best album of all time, behind TDAG.
Last night and again tonight i've played the standard version but then played the bonus tracks after haha. It doesn't feel complete unless i play all 13 tracks. Along with TROW's back catalog, i'm also excited to dive back into their side projects. Haven't heard american gospel and the year fifiteen. Souveneer and ToT are pretty solid.
I don’t think I’ve listened to Antarctica’s. Making a TROW and side project Spotify playlist right...meow
Some things: 1. Asked about getting sent lossless files of the extended album if I preorder, and the band said for me to hit up Simple Stereo, so anyone who's also after those, you know what to do. 2. Asked SS about a TROW care package shipment in June (i.e. a bunch of hypothetical other stuff ordered separately from shrine and combined into one order with the LP), because looking at their store and seeing the dedication this band has when it comes to physical product means I'm probably going to go ham on their records. 3. Asked SS about a Varuna repress since I know y'all might be interested and that album is so hard to find these days.
Just yesterday I was sitting on the bus listening to this and I wondered to myself if there was even anyone else in the city that knew the band existed.
People also should check out Souveneer (Mason’s solo thing), American Gospel (Gregg’s solo project) and The Year Fifteen (Billy’s solo project). They all makes appearances with each other.
Really great first listen and I'm already looking forward to diving back into it for more. Standout tracks for me on my first listen were The Canyon, Bask, Mitama, Dialogues, and Northern Orthodox. I'm sure that'll change a lot with repeated listens though.
Starting to pick up on way more of the lyrics now that I'm becoming more familiar with the songs. Great stuff in The Canyon wow what an opener.
