Any way to get just the remaster on vinyl? Everything I’m seeing is like an $80 bundle.

 

Unfortunately not that I’ve seen. Split the cost with my brother who is still a cd buyer and he’s keeping the cds

 

Anyway I’ve been unable to listen to much besides this (and their other music) this week. Obviously the biggest change is in the drums and bass but what struck me the most is what the remix does to Paul’s vocals. I wasn’t sold on it on the A side on first listen—having the vocals more prominent on “Life” and “Bus” was jarring, and made “Bus” sound even poppier than it already is.

But then I got to the B side. Having his vocals higher in the mix and with less reverb on “Bastards” the snarl comes through just 10% more and it’s like a kick in the teeth. Then on the closing trio of songs—pound for pound the three best closing songs on any album ever, dare you to find a better three—well I think I teared up during the climax of “Dial” the first time I heard it, can hear the anguish in the “I’ll try to find you” part when most of the instruments drop out. Also I don’t know if we knew previously that it’s Alex Chilton singing backing vocals on that song but holy shit

very very in love with the new Tim mix, it’s inspired me go through the discog these past few days for the first time ever.

 

I haven't listened to the 'Mats in a few years bur I have had Dose of Thunder stuck in my head for a million years.

Diving into this now and it's instantly blowing my mind.

 

I think Tim is back to being a top-five record all time for me again now. Hadn't been that way in quite awhile. Still stunned by what the reissue has done for my enjoyment of the record.

OH HELL YEAH

got all the box sets thus far and they’re all phenomenal, was really hoping they’d do one for this record.

 

can't wait to add this deluxe release to my other 'mats boxsets!

Eh I’ll pass on a boxset that expensive that’s 50% an audience taping put on vinyl lol. Can call it “remastered” as much as you want that’s not worth it to me.

Find myself where I have been with other boxsets though: I’d love to have the booklet thing with extended liner notes/essays and photos. Maybe I should buy cd if it’s included in that

 

I’m definitely snagging it at some point, but I am hoping (much like the other sets) that it will be heavily discounted a few months down the line, so I am holding off for now. wayyyyy too many things coming for my money right now lol.

I am curious why they decided to go so much bigger with this one in terms of it being 4 LPs instead of just 1 curated “alternate” version of the record. I liked that about the prior sets. on top of it meaning the sets were cheaper, it also meant it felt less redundant to own on top of the standard release. I have an original pressing of Let It Be, I don’t really need the 2025 remaster on vinyl personally, I am confident it won’t sound better. but I am in it for the extras, and at this point for completionist’s sake, nonetheless.
