I need a place to discuss how Tim is better than Let It Be! I'm almost done with the book and their whole career of self-sabotage is fascinating.
Tim is my favourite Mats album. That trilogy of Let it Be through Pleased to Meet Me are all very difficult to separate though.
Definitely a peak in the discography there. Though the songs get a lot of their charm from the production's rough edges, part of me always wonders how huge Bastards of Young could sound with the right mix.
Yeah i hope someone remasters the albums one day. Same with the later Husker Du records. I mean I'd like a decent sounding version of Zen Arcade and New Day Rising but the original recordings are so raw there's no saving them I'd imagine
I am fucking stoked for this. I've always thought that album was underrated if you looked beneath the 80s sheen, but the prospect of a new mix is very enticing.
Hear the Replacements’ Newly Mixed ‘Talent Show’ From ‘Dead Man’s Pop’ Box Set absolutely loving the sound of this new mix color me impressed (ha) with the work Mike Wallace and co. put into this
I absolutely love the new mix. It improves on almost every song, except for my favorite song on the original LP, "Asking Me Lies" The new mix has an insane amount of cowbell and also the drums sound super flat? Maybe there weren't enough usable tracks to go with that one Anyway this reissue rules
don't tell a soul was always my favorite replacements record and the new/old mix has totally renewed my obsession with it
feels like these songs are finally getting the shine they always deserved removed from the uber 80s gloss of the original mix
I've been saying it for years but this re-release further re-affirms that "Portland" never should have been left off the album An all-timer
I think my fav Replacements record is Tim, but my most listened to is Pleased to Meet Me. That album is endlessly listenable.
Been on a HUGE Replacements kick the past few months. Specifically due to Mark Hoppus playing them on his radio show and it reminding me of how much l loved Bastards of Young. Please to Meet Me is still an unstoppable listen for me though. This past week I found that album on vinyl along with a first pressing of Elvis Costello's My Aim Is True at an antique store in a small mountain town near Lake Tahoe. $10 each! A used book/record store also had a 4 album box set for $70. Side note: I still like to think that The Menzingers are this generations The Replacements as far as the rock/punk genre goes. Minus the fact that The Menzingers know how to keep their shit together haha. Menzingers have always given me strong Replacements/Jawbreaker/Gaslight Anthem Vibes.
Time got me interested. Bastards was terrific... BUt 1987 was a pivotal year for me, and when pleased to meet me came out, and I heard Alex Chilton for the first time.... Hooked. Done. And then DOnt tell a Soul came out a couple years later... again, outstanding.
