Hope we get some more (official) deets on that new Descendents album soon. It's been like, what, a month since they said the album would be coming out? Almost definitely my most anticipated of the year.
Bought the new Tiger Army album tonight. Meant to come out tomorrow here in Australia, but the record store near me always sneaks stuff out the night before. It's really good! A slower album overall, though a pretty good mix of the last 2 albums and Nick's solo album, with some new sounds in there too. Some straight up Roy Orbison sounding stuff on there. I'm loving it.
The best part about it is that only about 1/3 of his Facebook stories derail into a Banksy stories. The rest are, at least to my knowledge, legitimate. So almost every time Banksy comes in its a big "God damnit" moment.
Really been on a punk vibe the last few days, especially that 90's pop punk/skate punk sound. What are some of your recs for 90's bands/albums in the vein of Digger, early MxPx, etc? Any essentials or under the radar gems out there?
You've probably heard a lot of these (and some are from the early 2000's), but here are some of my faves from that 90's Epitaph/Fat Wreck sound: Lagwagon - Let's Talk About Feelings Ten Foot Pole - Bad Mother Trucker Strung Out - Suburban Teenage Wasteland Blues Millencolin - For Monkeys Osker - Treatment 5 No Use for a Name - Making Friends NOFX - So Long and Thanks for All The Shoes Pulley - Esteem Driven Engine All - Mass Nerder Hi Standard - Making The Road Bracket - When All Else Fails Diesel Boy - Rode Hard and Put Away Wet
Here's a few I like that weren't posted above (which are all great choices). Most of these are a bit more obscure other than Everything Sucks. Limp - guitarded Consumed - Breakfast at Pappa's Descendents - Everything Sucks J Church - The Drama of Alienation MI6 - Lunchbox Samiam - Astray Slimer - Adult Cabaret
Ray Rocket was very moving talking about his brother at the show tonight. The Copyrights are one of the most consistently good and underrated bands of the last 10 years. A very fun night last night and a really great band. They can really write a hell of a hook.
The Copyrights are so great. "Fireworks" is nearly impossible to shake from your brain once you hear it.
That Ray Rocket album is fantastic. I feel it was very under promoted. I have a whole bunch of TBR fan friends who didn't even know it existed!
Creeper are so good. Saw them at Slam Dunk Festival recently in the hottest, most crowded small room and it was absolutely amazing. The band have yet to write a bad song, so I'm interested in their debut album whenever they release that. Band are on their way to being superstars.
Looks like that Descendents album cover i found wasn't real, haha. I like the actual one better though. New song is so rad too! Cool bundles here too The Official Descendents Online Store I'm pretty excited!!
Yeah, 21 is awesome!! Track times are super short though. More in line with Everything Sucks than Cool To Be You. But with Descendents, that's no biggie. The next subscriber issue of New Noise mag also has the track 'Fighting Myself' on their cover flexi.
This has been one hell of a year so far for music. I'm unreasonably excited for the Descendents records. There's so much more to come! Keeping up w/ all of the fantastic releases is not an easy job!
I just bought tix to see them in Halifax later this summer. just over $11 with taxes and fees. Unreal lol. So glad as well since they keep playing Chicago this year and I'm not around to see em
It's so great to have the Decendents back making music again. Also I can't believe this thread has passed me by the last few months since we've been on Chorus. Shame it didn't keep the Punk Goes thread title. Other than Pup, Tiger Army and The Falcon I haven't really heard that many new punk albums this year, you guys got any recs?
I've got a few for ya: Angel Du$t - Rock the Fuck on Forever The Dirty Nil - Higher Power Face to Face - Protection Basement - Promise Everything Worship This! - Mint Mean Jeans - Tight New Dimension The So So Glos - Kamikaze Fucko - Dealing With the Weird Bad Ideas - s/t Problem Daughter - Fits of Disorganized Boredom Plow United - Three PEARS - Green Star The Ship Thieves - No Anchor There are a few others I haven't listened to yet that I think this thread would enjoy, but since they haven't hit my ears quite yet, I'll hold off.
Awesome man, That dirty nil album is so fun (for some reason I was thinking that came out end of last year). I've also heard the basement record but for some reason that bands never clicked for me. I'll be sure to check out the rest though.
Direct Hit and Useless ID have albums coming in the next few weeks too; I'm sure those will get some mentions in here too.
