I was just curious if there was something specific that could be interesting to hear about.

fair. It didn’t jump out at me either, I’m only going to watch it because of the nomination. If not for that I wouldn’t bother most likely.

If anything, why not support the movie because of its deaf representation?

As to the movie not showing the deaf family member's problems as more important, I think that misses the point that they are perfectly able to solve them on their own like anyone else. Does every movie with deaf people have to focus on their storyline? I think it's respectful how the family is portrayed like any other. Of course a teen is embarrassed by her parents and struggles with her dream vs family obligations. That's a ton of other stories sub the deaf culture. I think it's also great we get a Mexican actor playing the eccentric music teacher. Representation matters.

A movie about deaf fisherman would also have a $12 budget if they're lucky haha

I’d even say fine, just not sure why it’s gotten such hype though is what I’m getting at.

The hype and the quality of the movie are two different things. I think people generally like feel good movies. For the general audience that’s gotta be one of the main draws, I presume. I think People like to think that it showcasing an underserved community in the film that it is more worth watching. Beyond that, it’s well done. It does what it set out to do and does a fine job.

personally, I don’t get the hype either. But then again, I don’t mind fucked up movies with dark endings. so the feel good nature isnt necessarily a necessity for me.

while not getting the height of the hype, I see why a finely done feel good movie attracts the attention of people more so than others.

    I dunno, I’m just spitballing

And that’s how you do an apology. That’s a sincere, heartfelt apology. Why is that so hard for literally anyone. My god.

Anyone watch Top Of The Lake? I'm about halfway through Season 2, Season 1 was a pretty solid detective procedural (albeit with some things a little over the top, but I know that's kinda the whole point) but Season 2 has some incredibly bizarre cringe comedy moments.

regardless, definitely recommend if you're looking for something to hold you over until True Detective comes back
