Episode 11 in season 1 was when the Pittfest shooting started. This one didn’t have an explanation of what’s going to cause everyone to stay late (except Robby with his friend) so I assume some bomb is going to drop before the end of shift next ep But this was one of the most stressful episodes in the whole show, jfc. Everyone is spiraling
Is Mel ace? Or at least a bit demi? Feels like she was projecting her own attitude about sex onto Becca
Mel has probably avoided relationships as she viewed them as a distraction from taking care of her sister. She has probably made various sacrifices and she suddenly sees that things she gave up for Becca are happening for Becca.
Yeah it’s just (1) she’s autistic herself and almost certainly struggles with forming relationships of any kind, let alone romantic ones, and (2) her entire personal life revolves around Becca and she feels betrayed that the reverse of that isn’t true. Plus initially she was also concerned (rightfully imo) that Becca might have been a victim without fully understanding why
I’d point to what Greg and Marx already posted but also I’m curious what about what specifically you mean? Not that it’s a significant sample size but me and the other asexual people I know really don’t care about other people having sex
Some people are just uncomfortable about sex. Definitely feels that way a bit about Mel. It's not like she opposes the idea but I think she views Becca as kinda like "oh you're just me but with the autism dialed up another level" and so it would make sense if the idea of Becca wanting sex didn't even occur to her because it's not something she wants Though as others said could just be her being overly protective and worried she's getting taken advantage of
Anyways the running trend of these zoomer doctors not knowing who people like Roberto Clemente are is making me feel old
Ogilvie not understanding how/why people become addicts is just a bit of a notch too high on the “drama for the sake of drama” knob for me. I get that doctors aren’t immune from ignorance about more squishy psychological or sociological issues, but in this day and age I feel like even people who aren’t particularly sympathetic to addicts at least have a sense that it originates from a real bad place. Idk exactly what they teach about it in medical school but I would assume it’s a sorta 101-level thing given that it’s a pretty unavoidable aspect of working in just about any kind of medical field
Ogilvie is just kinda dumb in general. He also didn’t understand why that guy weighed as much as he did.
Literally everyone else crashing out this episode while Dana holds down the fort like a fucking rockstar Surprised Mel isn't in therapy. She 100% should be
Most of the medical folks I met through my ex were decent people. That said, the horror stories I could tell you about some of her nursing class, man. Chalk it up to being young maybe, or the fact that this was Northern Colorado and not like a big city, but there seemed to be quite a bit of casual racism ('hispanic panic' - assuming that hispanic patients are overdramatic, the same thing being said about people of color). Not believing women's pain levels, especially for stuff like endometriosis/hysterectomies. And occasionally people who were maybe a little callous towards addiction/homelessness. Though the only time I saw that really was more of a 'I don't really get this' and maybe not outright cruelty, maybe similar to Ogilvie. He seems to just not understand why anyone would be unhealthy at all lol
I mean that’s fair, being sex-repulsed is certainly a reality for some asexual people and I wasn’t considering enough how that could manifest so I made a bad post Based on Mel’s reaction though I don’t think that’s the case with her, esp since her commenting on how Becca is having “great sex” seems to suggest that’s something she’s disappointed she’s not experiencing
Yeah but like, I get that people like Robby, Santos and Whiticker aren't in therapy even though they should be. But the quite neuroatypical girly? Am I just in a bubble in Seattle where having a therapist is rather common of not the norm?
Therapy is definitely not just a “coastal” thing, it’s pretty common everywhere at this point The characters here are just emblematic of the type of person who is extremely smart and therefore thinks they can intellectualize their way out of their trauma Speaking of: it has been a very long time and Al-Hashemi still hasn’t had her appointment with her therapist. I assume some shoe is going to drop in the final third, but they’re really taking their time setting it up for her
