It's still wild to me that what I thought at first was just gonna be a little throwback love letter to 90's procedurals has become one of the most popular TV dramas in the country.
really hope the shows success revitalizes how modern prestige TV is produced. obviously the whole concept wouldn't work on a shorter episode release cycle, but if this had just been an ER reboot doing a couple of six episode seasons it would have been forgotten by now there are a number of reasons as to why the show has succeeded so well, but I think the primary success of the show really boils down to how it treats its characters. having 15 episode seasons makes it so much easier to flush our your characters than you could in a six or eight episode season. TV fans have been screaming for years now that the shorter seasons simply don't give you the time needed for good character development and hopefully other networks take note I could pretty easily name 20 characters from the show. With a little work I'm sure I could get to 30 and if I am allowed to be less accurate and just go with stuff like "Victoria's mom" or "the S2 social worker in the wheel chair whose name I forget" I think I could clear 40 or 50 Last show I watched that I could name 20 characters by name on is probably Parks and Rec, GOT or Bob's Burgers.
HBO Max already has at least two "The Pitt model" shows in the pipeline. First is "American Blue" starring Milo Ventimiglia which is supposed to be a throwback to NYPD Blue style cop shows Then there is How To Survive Without Me from Greg Berlanti which is a family drama that is supposed to take inspiration from Six Feet Under and Brothers & Sisters.
It's showran by the dude behind Supernatural and I guess a bunch of episodes will be directed by David Ayer. Dave living that Vent lifestyle
Oh and John Wells is also working on a political drama for Netflix about senate staffers that is being described as "The West Wing meets Industry".
On the one hand I get that the West Wing is idealized bullshit On the other, I wouldn't be the person I am today without the West Wing and the wire and "the Pitt expect it's for the west wing instead of ER" would be wonderful
I mean if anyone was going to do a spiritual successor to The West Wing it would be John Wells, considering he ran that show after Sorkin left. I think this show is going to be a little hipper than the Pitt though with like Industry and Euphoria vibes.
Well then how are you going to know where it takes place? Or what Jones asks Grim about accuracy? Or what Grim’s gf does for a living? Smh
I can only assume that somebody in here guessed that Robby is going to adopt the baby to which I would laugh and scoff
That was honestly my initial assumption before thinking about it for like 2 seconds. Wyle gave an interview the day after airing confirming Robby doesn't do that.
Hatosy no longer considered a "guest actor". Will compete in the upcoming awards season as a Supporting Actor.
Nielsen data is out: #1 most watched show on streaming for the week of 3/30 - 4/5. The Pitt's first time on top of the streaming charts. It eclipsed it's closest #2 Love On The Spectrum by hundreds of millions of minutes viewed.
I am interested to see the demo numbers. I get a feeling they are absolutely killing it with 18-34. Also I have a Nielsenposting pass, I used to work there.
