It's definitely my least favorite from them, but I saw them live and they slayed. I'm excited to see what they do next now that they have a full lineup for the first time in a long long time.

The album has some good songs, just really thought Mutations was closer to what I like from them.

Yeah, Mutations definitely ranks higher for me, but I've enjoyed Freakazoid quite a bit.

You should read the history on what happened to The Pink Spiders because they were on the verge of being the next big thing and got fucked by the studio to no one's surprise.

But it's super interesting hearing it from the original members because they were forced to rerecord tracks from their first album and had basically no say in production for Teenage Graffiti.

yah and for it being on a subsidary of a major label, it didn't really do anything for them. most people i talk to these days about them have never heard of em, i love hot pink & teenage graffiti.

My wife used to be really into this band. She had Freakazoid on the other day and, while it's not going to win any awards for originality, it's pretty damn catchy front to back. This is going to sound like a backhanded compliment (but it's not), but almost every song sounds like the type on which you'd expect to see four or more credited songwriters, but they're all solely credited to Matt Friction. He can write such a catchy hook that it almost seems weird that he's not a gun for hire for a lot of pop artists. Seems like he could write a Machine Gun Kelly song in his sleep.

Freakazoid has grown on me, but I think Mutations was such a spectacular return for the band. I saw them live recently and the Freakazoid songs are real good live most especially Freakin' Freakin' Out.

Matt's always been great at writing hooks. He had three side projects (that I know of) while The Pink Spiders were down. Matt Friction & The Cheap Shots, The Dozen Dimes and The Hot Veins. He scrubbed The Hot Veins off the internet and The Dozen Dimes are like a retro throwback to doo wop. Take a listen to some of these hooks.

The chorus of this song is so good.

If I can get in touch with Matt, maybe he'll send me The Hot Veins stuff. He did tell me once he would do that, but he also said that some of those songs got reworked into other stuff so idk.

Both albums are really fun in completely different ways. Cheap Shots is definitely Nashville vibe which makes sense.
