It's LITERALLY not classified as a pie though. That's the actual factual classification of it.

 

A tart is a dish consisting of a filling over a pastry base with an open top not covered with pastry. The pastry is usually shortcrust pastry; the filling may be sweet or savoury, though modern tarts are usually fruit-based, sometimes with custard.

You keep ignoring my point: this also very much describes key lime pie and we still call it a pie. Things like this can have overlap and be both.

 

A key lime pie is classified as a pie. A cheesecake is not. I didn't make the rules. I'm just saying you don't get to change them.

It's not a cake. That's correct. It's a cheesecake. It is it's own thing unless you're talking about the family of dessert it is in, in which case it is a tart.

Also, something being debated doesn't mean there is validity to it. People debate whether or not the Earth is flat or evolution is real and tbh this is a much quicker solution to find.
