It’s the fact that the distinction between a tart and a pie is vague and inconsistent. Cheesecake being a tart but Key Lime Pie and Pumpkin Pie being pies makes no sense when they all use a similar soft, crumbly crust and they all are filled with a cold, creamy custard. Either they’re all tarts, they’re all pies, or option 3: the difference between a pie and a tart is negligible and not worth pointing out. For all intents and purposes it’s not misleading to call cheesecake a pie. It makes complete sense categorically, and calling it a tart isn’t really any different / barely distinguishes anything tangible about it.
I’m less inclined to call it a tart actually cause the word “tart” as a verb refers to a kinda sour / bitter flavor, so I definitely don’t associate the noun “tart” with sweet and creamy desserts like cheesecake
I’m not saying anyone’s right or wrong, call it what you want to call it, I was just defending my logic cause me calling it a pie DOES at least make sense haha.
I think calling it a pie mostly makes sense, but I think calling it a tart also mostly makes sense. Seems like a cheesecake is really its own thing.
Cheesecake is something I’ve wanted to make at home for a while but my wife doesn’t like it and I don’t need to eat a whole cheesecake by myself lol
if it wasn't able to be baked ever then the term no-bake cheesecake wouldn't exist because it would be redundant
