The Margot Robbie scene in Asteroid City is one of the most deeply touching things in his entire filmography. That movie is one of his best imo
The Robbie scene brings me to tears almost every time I watch. "And I say... all my pictures come out." Same for the "I've had a rough year." in Tenenbaums. "I hope he remembers me." in Life Aquatic. Love Wes.
every Wes movie has one scene (usually in the middle but in Grand Budapest it's the very end) that drops all the zany silly stuff and just punches you right in the heart. he's great at it
The one scene in “Moonrise Kingdom” where the girl is waxing rhapsodic about being an orphan and the boy stops her and says “I love you, but you don’t know what you’re talking about” is a such funny, grounding scene.
Loved Benico in this. Couldn't help but think if this was made 10-15 years ago, it'd certainly be Tom Hanks in that role.
I missed the first 10 minutes (trailer times at my local theater are proving to be wildly inconsistent), but this was overall decent. I enjoyed it more than Asteroid City. There’s elements that don’t really seem to lead anywhere, but the themes of fatherhood and repentance were well done. Definitely not the best Anderson, but middle of the pack.
Sadly didn’t hit for me. Some super fun stuff and I’d like to see it again at some point but it plodded a bit. Asteroid City was close to his top tier, this was pretty far off that for me despite some elements I liked.
so do i. an alarm went off in my theater midway through watching and everyone had to evacuate. i did manage to catch the rest shortly after
