This is definitely a simplification, but pit bulls are widely associated with the black community, and I don't think it's a coincidence that this then is the breed that gets coverage on local news when an attack does occur; nor do I think it's a coincidence that pit bulls are the breed almost exclusively targeted in bans and legislation. Obviously when they do attack it tends to be more severe than many other breeds, which also lends itself to sensational coverage, but like others have pointed out, the dog's socialization and upbringing (among other things) has far more to do with the likelihood of such an event than the breed itself. I can't help but wonder if there would be more understanding and less hysteria if pit bulls weren't constantly demonized and linked to Black America whether in news coverage, pop culture, etc. I find there's a very unnerving fervor whenever a pit bull gets negative attention. A few years ago we went for a walk with my girlfriend's friend and her husband, who is darker skinned and has a pit bull. We walked by a family, and the woman openly points and tells her toddler, "that's a bad dog." Hmm. https://law.lclark.edu/live/files/32171-25-1-third-articlepdf This is a pretty good journal article.
I will definitely have questions! Are yours litter trained? Do they use it all the time? I'm concerned that when we actually get one (probably one to start, but the plan would be to end up with two) that we will end up with pee and poop everywhere, haha. It seems like litter training is pretty hit or miss with them.
Interesting stuff, thank you for your pov and the link! Ours are! For reference, we have one older rabbit and one younger rabbit. The younger rabbit has a pen because he still gets into chewing everything even though we did out best to bunny proof his room, so we let him run every other day if not every day. Litter trained or not, you're going to get poops outside of the box (it's territorial), but they are a super easy cleanup and with him, they stay in his pen. We honestly only need to clean it once a week. The older rabbit has a whole room to himself, no pen, and yeah, depending on how often you clean it, you're going to have poops everywhere. Again, super easy cleanup, and for what it's worth, neither of them have peed outside of their boxes or even had accidents that I can remember.
As someone who had a mouse, poops don’t really bother me at all; it’s mostly pee I’m concerned about, so that’s reassuring to know that yours haven’t had many, if any accidents. Bunnies are so cute and I’m excited for you to post those photos!
We got Willow a wee brother back in December. I’ve barely slept in 2 months, he’s a hurricane but an adorable one. Willow has even, mostly, made peace with not being an only child.
I'll get there, I have to post from mobile and the photos are too big from IG so it's a whole thing lol
Thank you! Cinnabun (first photo) is over 10. He's getting up there. Basically a big teddy bear. I wish I wasn't allergic. Alfredo has gotten bigger, but not much bigger. He's a little asshole. It's been hard trying to socialize him. But he's mine, and I love him to pieces.
Man it's really the weirdest thing, instead of calming down with age, my cat is just becoming more and more of a hyperactive tyrant. Absolutely love her to death, she's very sweet with me and loves to sit on or against me. But her food obsession is becoming such a problem. 3-4 AM, she's running at a million miles an hour throughout the apartment and purposely knocks things over, breaks things, or jumps on us with her full weight repeatedly, nonstop until you give in. She's just incredibly stubborn. My arms are covered in bite marks and scratches from her trying to wake me up, I've woken up to my lamp knocked on the floor, my fiances jewelry is god knows where. It's getting really exhausting. She's almost 13 years old, but she's just regressing with age haha
