We just did it I have never cried that much in my entire life. Not even exaggeration. He made it so hard for us. He's mentally super healthy. Like he still perked and ran for food. He easily jumped in and out of our truck. We went for a 8 mile hike six days ago!! But he was starting to cough more and more this morning. The idea is at any moment he was gonna burst, choking him, and dying almost instantly. We needed to find that right moment between being 100% and 0%. We did it at 60%. This is a nightmare. If you told me my family wouldn't be whole 5 days ago, id say you're crazy. I mean, you could've told me he had cancer and that the next few months would be difficult or something, not...he has 3 days to live. I have to be there for my wife. It was her dog before we met (2 years). He walked her down the aisle. He's her rock. But im a bigger wreck than her (at least now).
So sorry to hear that @domotime2 cliche to say that he’s somewhere better now, but i always like to believe that is true in the sense he’s not in pain and hopefully he’s already having the time of his life forever doing the fun things he loved to do with you and your family. we had to say goodbye to my first dog at the end of 2019 and he was 12, which for his breed was above normal by 2-3 years I learned and I still will randomly breakdown thinking about the last time we played fetch and saying goodbye and waiting for the end at the vet. But I also always think of all the great times and funny times.
anyone else deal with a greedy cat that always wants to eat, even though we feed him enough? like he will attack the automatic feeder, trying to get food. sometimes he will just sit by it and cry. he will break into the bag of cat food to get food. he will even eat our food we leave out to thaw or bread on the counter. he also makes it difficult for the other cat to eat because the other cat is skiddish. so he'll also eat her food. anyone ever deal with this behaviour?
Yeah my cat is like this, but not so extreme I guess. She’ll eat my dog’s food even when she has food in her own bowl. Any time we stand up in the living room she runs to her bowl to yell for more food.
Yep. Nothing we can really do but watch him while they eat their food and be careful about what we leave out
Yep that's my cat. She also survived in the wild for 9 months so it turned her into a complete dumpster diver. We have to put heavy objects on the trash lid so she doesn't knock it over and we rubber band our cabinets shut
not a lot of good fixes for this. Rule out medical causes (diabetes, hyperthyroidism, etc) and if you haven’t already, talk to your vet to make sure cat is getting what it needs nutritionally (quantity and quality) Other ideas: -more frequent, smaller meals. Good call on already having auto feeder. -they also make (expensive) microchip feeders but this is better for keeping weight down rather than discouraging appetite -use a weight management diet +/- the above to feel fuller -in addition to meal times, use puzzle feeders and other hidden food to keep entertained and satiated between meals -if not done already, schedule play times and similar routines/day structure to keep occupied and tired so less energy for “hunting” -use deterrents at stored food like double sided tape, citrus scents, foil. Don’t use punishments like spraying water and whatnot. It’s stressful and counter-productive. -if they get a lot of treats, replace treats with their regular food - healthy pets don’t care what they’re eating as long as they’re eating something they like so might as well not get them so used to and fixated on extra tasty things -feed at separate locations +/- times from other cat to make sure both are actually getting what they need (recommended for all multi-cat households tbh)
Great advice, all of it. My cats are back to fighting after we got a second litter box, cat tree, and diffusers (they were doing fine for about a month), so it looks like kitty prozac may be the way for them, unfortunately.
My cat is terrible for trying to guilt trip me into feeding her. She's a healthy weight though and I'm very regimented in what I feed her now, so there's this slightly strange game now where she (correctly) reminds me when it's breakfast/snack/dinner time, but will also try her luck whenever she can in trying to convince me that she hasn't been fed. Luckily, she doesn't do anything destructive. She's just loud. She's generally a monstrous attention seeker anyway, so ignoring her has to be part I heard from my brother that their vet told them that domestic cats lose a lot of their appetite regulation when they're spayed as well, so that's kind of led me to double down on being strict with mine. She'd be the size of a car if I gave in.
so i woke up to find my potato bread buns that i put on the top shelf half eaten on the floor with the plastic all torn up. it used to be the mice that did that, now it's the mice repellent doing it.
Took our dog to the groomer on Saturday (technically a grooming school) and today he’s pretty lethargic, not getting very excited about much, even snacks. I’ve heard canine flu has been going around to a point that shelters aren’t accepting any surrenders, so now I’m worried about him. But hopefully it’s nothing!
Our beardie Morax is getting big (and shedding again lol). We moved him into his final big boy tank yesterday and he looks so tiny now.
been doing some group cuddles lately, Mochi usually isn’t big on sharing space with Zuko but he’s been a lot better about it lately
Happy 5th Gotcha Day to Phil, 1st photo is from the day I drove an hour to meet a woman that was giving him away, and the 2nd photo was just now in my kitchen floor because if you sit on the floor with him he wants to sit between your legs
