Rough night with the kids. Sometimes I nanny and one of their parents gets off and comes around and the kids go apeshit when their parents are around

Ash (2.5 y/o) wakes up at least 3 times a week having peed through his clothes. We've tried overnight diapers and that didn't work either. Truly, what I think is happening, is he's waking up around 530/6, with what I'd consider morning wood, and it's coming out of the top. Any advice for those of you who have boys? Did this ever happen to you?

I'm sorry, but I laughed really hard at this. Do you have overnight diapers? Or overnight pullups? I think there is a difference. We have been using overnight pull ups on my son for the last year or so (he's 3 1/2). There's been maybe one or two times he's peed through it, and yeah, it's probably due to the positioning of where his... wee wee is.

    He's still in diapers right?

When we had issues with him peeing through his clothes we switched to overnight diapers and that seemed to work.

Is it maybe a size issue? Another thing we did as well, moved him up a diaper size and it's helped tremendously.

    Hope this helps

Oh, please don't feel bad for laughing. His mom and I think it's funny as well. We came to the conclusion because it's always to top of his pants and bottom of his shirt, never down where his crotch/legs are. I suggested taping it, but mom wasn't having it. :crylaugh:

We tried overnight diapers, but to add to what I just posted, we think the issue is that it's pointing up, so where all the extra absorbing stuff is at the bottom, isn't going to help.

You'd be surprised though, a bigger size diaper could help position his penis differently in the diaper.

Hope you can figure out a solution to no more wet sheets/clothes!

Will definitely try a bigger size, we'll see how that goes. And we have one of those pee-proof mat-blanket things from when he was an infant that I use, so luckily I'm not constantly changing the sheets, just swap out the mat.

    Also, our camera records 6-second clips when it detects movements. I was in the shower the other day and it got this;

Yeah those mats are life changers when it comes to changing the sheets.

I know how annoying wet clothes can be though

  16. Does he have a potty in his room? IDK what "normal" is for most parents so sorry if this is a foregone conclusion but we put a potty in the room for him and our son gets up, goes pee, and 7/10 times goes back to sleep on his own. It's so funny to watch him do it in his sleepy stuper.

What happens the other 3 times?

  18. He potties 10/10 times. The other 3 times instead of going back to sleep he stands and cries until we come in to lay with him until he falls back asleep. If it’s early in the morning like 4:30/5am, well take him into bed with us. Problem is he knows that. Lol

  19. Anyone have kids with Marfan syndrome? Our son was diagnosed a couple months ago and it mostly seems to not be a huge deal. He’s got glasses for his bad eyesight and he’s on his own growth and weight curve but super healthy otherwise. Just gotta monitor him. So weird how that all correlates. Anyway, thought I’d extend that olive branch.:muscle:

I know he isn’t the best example but Austin Carlile of Of Mice & Men, etc. has it and I think he is a pretty big advocate for it. I have taken care of a few patients in the hospital but don’t normally work with that patient population. (I’m a nurse practitioner) Don’t they grade it on severity or I could be completely wrong. Also, do they automatically get a cardiologist when they are born?

  21. He wasn’t diagnosed until he was 2. It was 2 years of testing for all kinds of things that came back negative until his 2 year pediatric exam when our new pediatrician noticed the reflection in his eyes wasn’t level and suggested he see an opthomologist which we did and found he had his lenses severely displaced (like Emmy wife who had been thought to have Marfan when she was tested in 92 but they weren’t diagnosing yet I guess?) so that led to her thinking maybe this could be it. Sent us BACK to a geneticist whom we had seen the year prior and were cleared for whatever they were checking for then with this specific thing to look for. Badabing, we were sent to get an EKG and he had an enlarged aorta. Went back to the geneticist, tested directly for Marfan and there we had it. Glad we know now so people don’t keep suggesting something was wrong and keep testing a healthy kid for stuff.

That’s a crazy story. So does your wife have Marfan’s as well?

  23. Yes. She has the eye issue and not the heart issue. We’re assuming it came from her dad who had bad eyes too but he’s not around for us to know more. She just told me early on that Marfan had come up as something we wanted to explore and other than her not going to get the labs done on herself we don’t know why they waited so long to look into it for him. We were on our third pediatrician by the time anyone said anything. We love this guy now and he’s young so we’re hoping not to have to hop around to any others now. We didn’t love the first one and we got the second one based on popularity but our first appoint he mentioned he was retiring — of course! Haha

We don’t have any info about if it’s rated on a scale of severity. In terms of his heart, that’s just something to watch but it’s not something we have to be too concerned about. At least not yet.

So what’s the follow up like? Is it a rheumatologist for life?

I’m a nerd and this stuff interests me so I’m inquiring for my own knowledge as well.

  25. Yes yearly checkups from here on out. A VERY small price to pay and glad we know this early

As an aside, wife and I are at musink for GC and blink. SO stoked at not only how many little kids there are here but I’ve seen 4 strollers so far. Bummed we didn’t bring our son! He’d have been bummed he couldn’t see the drummer well though. We’d have to get so close. Haha
