    funny how often it flips.

some days my daughter wants to go thrifting with my wife. other days she wants to birdwatching with me. never know what it'll be

  2. Third ER trip this month for my six month old. We gave him the steroid dose they gave him two days ago and are hopeful by the time my wife gets him there the steroid has kicked in and they just turn around. But he sounded the worst he’s sounded to date imo. Little guy just can’t catch a break. Seems like the first time was pneumonia two weeks ago. Then he seemed better for like half a week. But it seems like he caught croup from the pneumonia and is having trouble shaking that. Just sounds like it’s impossible to breathe. And we can’t do anything for him. Miserable.

  3. We are going to have to transition to one nap soon, and off of bottles and binkies. It's going to get ugly, at least with the latter two. For the nap change, he's just getting his second nap less and less often. He has one-year-old baby FOMO and tends to just roll around and babble or stand in his crib and wants to play, but winds up miserable trying to make it to bedtime with only an early 80-minute nap in him. Hoping we can stretch his wake windows a bit and get him to take one longer nap in the middle of the day soon. Transitioning this stuff is so hard when you work a full-time job. I feel bad for our family having to watch him during this stuff.

The transition from 2 naps to one a day happened so seamlessly with my 19 month old that I didn’t even realize it happened

  6. Anyone have nice suggestions for a Mother's Day gift from my son to my mom? Something sentimental and grandchild-specific?

sometimes the fact that my kid spends more time with her daycare teachers than with me really gets me down. i know it's not really anything i can control, but it still really depresses me sometimes.

  8. I think about this a lot too - happy that he's spending time with family rather than daycare, but sad that I spend 9 hours away from him every day and like...less than half of that seeing him at home. We were not meant to live this way.

agree x10000000000, i would love more than anything just to be a stay at home dad

  11. Ehhhh im of the mind that the socialization with other kids their age is good prior to them going off to school but i wish they could have that while also hanging out at home lol

i mean the socialization is fine and all, it's just the barely getting to see them.

This, paired with the astronomical cost of decent childcare, is why my wife decided to be a SAHM. Luckily I work from home so we're both able to spend plenty of time with our daughter.

Daycare is great, my son learned a bunch of colors, letters and numbers at daycare before we even thought to start teaching him ourselves! It was such a surprise when he started pointing out letters lol. We’re very lucky we only have to do two days a week and grandparents do the other three. It would be so expensive for us at 5 days

i thought my parents were going to watch her at least once a week at first, but i think as she started getting into toddler age and more mobile it got to be too much for them at their age. so now we're daycare 5 days a week, which is expensive

I’m very blessed to have my MIL retired who watched them. My youngest will be in TK next year.

I love daycare, I also wish they were home all the time... it's how it goes! Luckily our daycare is relatively affordable, since we have two kids in, and our local district just made before and after care free for our district, so I am very much looking forward to our kids moving up in age and our cost plummeting to zero

It's crazy, stupidly, offensively expensive, but I'd go to war for Milo's daycare/pre-school. They're so great and it's absurd seeing how much better his speech has gotten since switching schools, and how much better he is at playing with other kids/sharing.

Oh same. Our daycare is no joke $550/week. But the one we were spending $425/week on was leaving scissors on the flor and losing him regularly so i'll take the extra $125 for him to be somewhere great.

Yeah we got spoiled with our first because between parental leave and covid hitting and closing down school, our first didn't have to go to daycare/pre school until he was..almost 18 months old? But his language exploded almost immediately after going. It's a montessori daycare so it's more learning then just "Daycare" which was great.

Our youngest is in an at home daycare right now that he started at 13 months. Haven't seen as much progress with him there as it is more of a 'babysitting' situation, but he's gonna be starting at the preschool our oldest went to this summer for 'summer camp' 3 days a week to get him acclimated to it before he starts there in the fall.
