I mean, they do facetime often and every weekend spend time gaming together which is great, but I wish his dad showed more interest or initiative in making trips or plans to see him outside of the bare minimum. Just frustrating, apologies for the rant lol. That's awesome you were able to get 50%!!
I have 50% but I’ve been being asked to do more and more lately and I’m a little worried about the trend. My daughter loves her mom and really misses her when we go past 3-4 days in a row. I just had her two weeks straight because her mom made excuse after excuse. And while I love having her, as a totally single parent with a demanding job it is damn hard to not have any help at all for long stretches
Little man got his two-month shots today. it was not fun for him obviously and made me feel pretty bad. Hoping tonight/tomorrow aren't too bad for him with side effects or a fever.
holly had a slight fever after her first set of shots but nothing that motrin didn’t help fix and none of her shots after that had any side effects after the initial pain and yelling from the shot itself
It's been okay! Everyone has been understanding and patient. I had 858 emails lmao. I am just chipping away at stuff. Most days, I'm not too tired - still averaging about six hours a night split into two parts. My wife goes back to work tomorrow, so the rest of the week is gonna be tough for her.
Daughter caught Covid from us and I feel horrible. We just started feeling better today and now she has a 100 fever and congestion :(
Really sorry to hear that. Wouldn’t feel bad considering one of you would have to have some interaction with her when you’re sick. Nothing you can do
I gave covid to my son for his first illness ever at 5 months. Worst feeling in the world. Here is to a speedy recovery. Lots of snuggles
tried in earnest to find a new job from november until now with no luck. apparently something is going on that makes it tough to find a job in the environmental engineering space these days. or maybe it's just me!? anyways, i start my new job as full-time stay at home dad next monday.
Could you try to hop into civil engineering space? My wife is a civil and has a few environmental engineering people come into their company. If not, enjoy the new digs anyway.
oh yeah, my grad degree is civil and environmental engineering. i had two interviews and both were actually civil. one was a very small run started / being run by a ~87 y/o. he seemed nice until he was hitting on a waitress 1/4 his age when we went out to lunch, and he kept repeating himself. in the other interview, the guy who i had never met was just casually throwing around the r-word. not to mention it was a job with no benefits and i would have been laid off at the end of the season. hard to do that when my wife can wfh 5 days a week and they give her full benefits. thanks re: the SAHD gig. it'll be a new adventure for sure. i'm holding out for a professorship some day, but i don't have a lot of hope in that regard. it's all good.
Try to get in with your state government! My cousin jumped ship working for the federal gov when she learned NY State was doing a hiring spree for ex federal employees. She worked for the dot and now is starting with the ny dot next month.
i actually joined as a board member for this watershed council in providence. it's pretty cool, they're a super interesting organization. they're the lead plaintiff on a case against the federal government right now. they had a $1M grant awarded to them, but because of it having an environmental justice bending (oh the horror of helping poor people), the grant was frozen. the board member slot is a volunteer opportunity, but there is a boatload of opportunity to meet people at all levels of government. the WRWC has done a ton of good work in pvd and rhode island. https://www.councilofnonprofits.org/files/media/documents/2025/woonasquatucket-complaint-amended.pdf i'm working on doing a lot of networking! that seems to be the way, since what i did these last few months obviously wasn't. my experience dealing with recruiters and that ish has been a frickin nightmare. i'm going to try and play the long game, here, now. i should hopefully be able to get employment for a little while.. it'll be good to have some 1 on 1 time with my daughter in the meantime.
Daughter is feeling better, but re-sleep training her to be back in her crib for nap/bedtime has been a nightmare. Did not miss this.
Just had to go pick the dude up from school because he threw up. Poor guy… hopefully it’s not a stomach bug. So far only the one vom but he’s in bed now eating some saltines and ginger ale. Gonna try to sleep it off.
very annoyed with my boss not wearing a mask in the office yesterday after two flights also saw someone post a fundraiser for their daughter who passed away from leukemia and realized how absolutely mortified I am of anything happening to my child, and I don't know how to cope or live with that level of constant anxiety
