It sucks that COVID has ruined our excitement for our kids going to school.

My son started kindergarten last year and never in a million years could I have imagined it would be under the circumstances that we were in (remote learning - he didn't return to the classroom until March). We all thought 'oh, it'll just be for this year' and here we are again a year later and things seem to be worse and in no way am I excited about my son starting 1st grade and my daughter starting pre-k. It’s just depressing thinking about how shitty this all is and this should normally be the portion of their years where we shouldn’t have to worry about them in school.

yeah I would expect some type of hybrid or temporary distance learning to return sooner rather than later. Sucks for the kids that will have to pay for adult ignorance

Me, and my wife are pregnant with our second. We’ve had 2 ultrasound appt now, and know the sex. Thank god I was able to convince my wife to not do a huge gender reveal party this time. I just didn’t want her to invite a million people, and stress like last time. We just told our families separately at dinner with them. Gonna have 2 boys now. Which is awesome cuz I always wanted a brother growing up, and I know my lil guy will have such a great time with one.

My 7 month old was supposed to start daycare yesterday but another child tested positive last Thursday, so they're closed and quarantining this week :/

My bf’s son was at his mom’s for two weeks and her and her boyfriend apparently tested positive for COVID, didn’t get the kids tested, and won’t share their results. They’ve gone back and forth on if they actually got a test or not. His son tested negative today but we’re being cautious and quarantining him because we have no idea when or if he was exposed. I can’t see this being the only time we have to do this to him unfortunately.

My wife and I are now expecting our second in March. I'm simultaneously excited and scared shitless because 1 is hard enough so we can only imagine what two's gonna be like. This guy's gonna be a great big brother though so that does alleviate a lot of the concern:

It should only be awful for a few days at most and it's totally worth it though.

Yeah. My kid now sleeps through the night like a champ most nights. It was hard at first, but once they get over that hump, your life changes significantly. Now if we could just get him down before 8 PM most nights...

One thing that always helped us get through it was the realization that in the morning my son had no recollection of the night before, wasn't mad at us for any reason, and was in no way anticipating the events to come the next night. It was never easy to hear him screaming out for us, but it was just a few days of that and then sweet, sweet bliss thereafter (for the most part).

We pulled our oldest out of school last week after two kids in her class contracted Covid (and then found out parents can still send their kids to school even if they have it), and then pulled our youngest from her school she was supposed to start tomorrow.

Homeschooling it is for two years in a row. Lord, beer my wife strength through this.

Me and my wife are already in school as teachers, and I am terrified to send my son back to daycare next week. This sucks.

Ultrasound went great. We are 7.5 weeks along. When I saw the heartbeat my heart melted. Certainly felt all the more real.

Our 5-year olds are in kindergarten full day, 5 days a week and our 3-year old starts preschool next week (half days, 3 days a week). Both schools require masking inside and the kindergarten is considering also requiring masking outside. The preschool is primarily outside, so not as much of a concern there.

We assume it's only a matter of time before they have to be quarantined because of an exposure, but hopefully things go smoothly until at least the 5-year olds can be vaccinated in Nov/Dec.

I thought there was a delay until next year for kids younger than 12 being vaccinated? My almost 6 year old is so ready for his

I think that's for full authorization. Everything I've seen has said they expect at least an emergency use authorization before the end of the year, with most articles I've read saying October or November.

    Gotcha, well that's a plus.

We are almost in the exact same boat as you, my son just started Kindergarten two weeks ago and oldest daughter starts preschool next week as well

Our District is mask optional (LOL), but we've been sending our kids in masks (1st Grade and Preschool). Our schools don't have A/C though, so last week, it was literally near 100 degrees inside the building, so we told our son not to wear it if he was too hot (which he said he was). Unprovoked the other day, he said "I don't like wearing a mask, but I'm also used to it and it's not a big deal."

Last year, our District required masks, but not for preschool. So my daughter was never masked and never had to quarantine, luckily. My son wore a mask, and no one from his class ever had to quarantine either. But, that was obviously before the Delta variant.

    This all fucking sucks.
