Is Bob Rock mixing their records too? Can't figure out how, what I assume are professional mixers, botch their stuff up so bad? Or is Rock handing in terrible source material to mix?
I'd be surprised if they didn't go back to Josh Freese again on drums in the studio. He's basically done them all forever.
Surprised Jonah nor Todd played on the album though, even though Brandon did. In regards to Todd not playing bass on the album, maybe some legal agreement between the band and Greg K?
Wish I could find enjoyment in this but I do not like the production and most of it sounds like it was written by AI.
I really like this! Last album had a few more highs but this seemed pretty consistent throughout. Actually excited to keep listening more.
Interesting they continue to have Josh Freese do studio drums on 6 of the 10 songs. Don’t mind at all haha
Agreed. No home runs here, but I’ll take an album of doubles. Not to mention, it’s an actual album. There are more “real” songs here than we’ve gotten on an Offspring album since 2008.
"OK, But This Is The Last Time" is super great but damn the chorus is so clunky percussion-wise. Kind of ruins the song for me.
Really enjoyed this. “An album of doubles” is the perfect summary and I don’t think that’s a knock on it. It’s not a no skips album (I just don’t like “Come to Brazil”), but I could pleasantly listen to the other 9 tracks without any issue. Some really fantastic hooks on OK, Fall Guy, Truth In Fiction as a Smash-level rager, and You Can’t Get There with a very 90’s rock chorus, plus Make It Alright and Light It Up. That’s a 6/10.
Had my second listen during my morning run. This thing has a little of everything....Offspring, NOFX, Bad Religion, Cheese Ball....No skips from me. Come To Brazil is ridiculous and fun. Genius of them since they can literally change the song live to suit whatever city they're playing in haha.
And I’m a Days Go By defender; only 2 songs I actually hate on there. and OC Guns is way worse than the other one
The songs were good! The problem was there was like...literal filler (Gone Away piano AND lullaby version, etc)
This is basically exactly what I want from this band in 2024. Fun, high energy stuff that I can throw on in the car or on a jog
Days Go By is very solid - the last album felt like a glorified B-Sides album to me - that they barely stretched to 30 minutes hopeful about this one though
There’s a few cool tracks on the last album, but this is much better. Feels like a solid, fast paced, no frills Offspring record.
We got relatively solid albums from both Eve 6 and The Offspring in 2024. I'm a happy camper. *edit: You can probably throw Green Day into that mix too.
