The full press release can be found below. Los Angeles, CA (July 25, 2019) – Seminal punk band THE OFFSPRING are putting the finishing touches on their first album in seven years. The mega-platinum-selling group has been recording with Grammy-winning producer Bob Rock in between extensive tours. The yet-to-be-titled album will be the follow-up to 2012’s ninth studio album, ‘Days Go By’ and their third consecutive release with Rock, who also produced 2008’s ‘Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace.’ “We’ve had an amazing time in the studio with Bob,” says vocalist/guitarist Dexter Holland. “We have history with him – he knows what works for us and how to get the best out of us. Save for a few small things, we’re pretty much wrapped and excited to get these tunes out there. We have a lot of really fast stuff on there, plus a couple of things that you might not really expect from us.” “People keep asking me what it sounds like and I say, it sounds like…us,” muses guitarist Noodles. “It’s all there – the melody, the powerful drums, bass and guitar. We dig it. You’ll dig it.” 2019 marks two important milestones for the Southern California-based group, including the 35th anniversary of their formation and the 25th anniversary of 1994’s landmark album, ‘Smash.’ Since its debut, ‘Smash’ has sold over 10 million copies and remains the highest-selling indie album of all time. The band just wrapped a North American tour that included Vans Warped Tour 25th Anniversary shows. Their high-octane performance at the recent Atlantic City date drew praise from Brooklyn Vegan, who wrote, “they’ve really got a lot of hits and they still have the energy, the attitude and the nasally sneer needed to deliver. The Offspring’s classics are embedded into punk’s DNA at this point. If you care about this kind of music, they’ve probably impacted you either directly or indirectly. And they still bring it.” Expand - View Original
"plus a couple of things that you might not really expect from us.” ohrly Offspring. Like the weird songs you've always done since the late '90s that I always end up skipping bc/embarrassment?
Lol, okay so it sounds like everything else they’ve released the past many, many years. They really need to branch away from Bob Rock too. Go ahead and give me a weird Offspring song like they do on every album, but have Pharrell be part of it or Sam Hollander, somebody outside their comfort zone. The songs don’t sound right unless they get somebody who knows what to do with them and not have them be total embarrassments.
He's not in the studio shot sent ... I think the tour starts ... tonight? ... people will know pretty quickly I'd imagine.
Around Christmas time I know Tony Kanal of No Doubt was filling in for Greg K for a few dates, but since then touring guitarist Todd Morse has been playing bass live. No word on who plays bass on the album. The band seems to be keeping Greg's status very under wraps, for whatever reason.
Wouldn't blame Greg at all for taking his shitload of money and doing whatever he wants for the rest of his life hahaha
I still contend that take away the like, five joke-y songs, Splinter would have made an absolutely killer EP.
