Excited for this. I actually enjoy his solo albums more than his centro-matic stuff. His last couple albums have been really good.
Stopped sleeping on Ian Noe today, I'd suggest all yall (except @jdr2187 I think) do the same. Dave Cobb produced his debut album from earlier this year, and if you're hanging out in this thread that really should be enough info to make you check it out. His voice is gonna get called "Dylanesque" but I think he sounds like Ketch Secor from OCMS personally.
Noe’s album is one of the best debut albums I’ve heard. If Today Doesn’t Do Me In is my personal favorite but there isn’t a weak track on the album. Strangely enough he sometimes reminds me of Jim Croce, but I’m not sure exactly why. Particularly the song That Kind of Life gives me Croce vibes. There are also obvious Dylan and Prine influences going on.
This does a much better job at capturing the magic of the acoustic version than the single version of "Somebody's Daughter" did. That said, I've kind of lost my excitement for this record, not because the songs aren't good, but because I kind of don't believe it's ever going to come out. One of the most bizarre album rollouts I can remember ever experiencing. Four songs released off the record already and it's not even been officially announced. And it's been a year since the lead single! Whoever planned this thing out should not have a career.
Hearing the version they released of "Somebody's Daughter" after hearing her original version is the most musically disappointed I have been in a long, long time... Maybe the delay is that they are going back and doing it again...
Yeah that's better than the hot mess that is Somebody's Daughter but I still prefer the acoustic version of Jersey as well. There's something so great and intimate about her acoustic stuff that is just lost with all the added bullshit.
I really can't wrap my head around the idea of anyone who is a fan of music in even the slightest way listening to the newer versions of her songs and thinking that they are better.
I will say the live version of Somebody’s Daughter was better than the recorded version. The acoustic rendition still reigns supreme though.
Just listened. I don’t know what I was expecting but that wasn’t it..lol. I like it though. Real curious to hear more.
I remember being a fan of Centro-Matic years ago, but I had kinda lost touch with their music. I had no idea he had cont'd making music solo. I went to his online store last night and picked up a few of his more recent albums.
Holy shit. Swan City Vampires is one of the best albums I have listened to in years. It is so good it makes me upset that it has existed in the world for 4 years and I was ignorant of it. I'm gonna listen to Hatteras Night, A Good Luck Charm today.
