I like both from him, and I feel like he finds the perfect balance between when to do which. Now is definitely the moment for this record.
some real good tunes on the a star is born soundtrack, one written by isbell, and a few written by lukas nelson
It wasn't what I was expecting. Only listened once so far and thought it was good, but it didn't really grab me as immediately as Mr. Misunderstood did.
I heard her song "Hold Me Like A Gun" the other day, meant to check out her other stuff. I like this song.
No chatter in here today about Colter Walls new one? That dude is the best. How he can be so young and sound like he's been smoking cigarettes for 50+ years I'll never understand.
I don't like the new Colter Wall record as much as I liked his debut. It's growing on me. I've had it for 2-3 months, but it was completely not what I wanted to hear in the summer, so I haven't listened to it that much. I don't think there are any songs on there that are anywhere near as good as "Codeine Dream" or "Kate McCannon." But I'm hoping I'll continue to enjoy it more as I spend more time with it. His voice is certainly still a marvel.
I agree that it's not as good as either of his other releases. It's very classic 50s and 60s Western country type music but just isn't as good.
It feels less dynamic to me than his last album. He's definitely going for a very specific sound/concept, but I think it ends up limiting him and his storytelling. I've seen a lot of tweets from people who absolutely love it, though, so maybe I'm just missing something.
Appreciate all of your recs for Hardly Strictly. Courtney Marie Andrews was definitely the standout for me, she was incredible live. But The Lone Bellow were also really good!
I've only spun it once so far and I was working so I wasnt really paying attention to the lyrics and what not. I'll have to give it a proper shot and see what I think.
yo @Craig Manning you heard this song? This link doesn't say it but on Apple Music it says it's featuring your girl Lori
In love with the new Colter Wall. I don't even need to compare it to his last record. I'm glad they both exist. Gonna see him in Detroit in a couple of weeks.
My wife and I have a tradition of driving around and listening to whatever albums come out that we have been looking forward to. After we listened to that album we just sat in the car in the driveway with nothing to say. And not in a good way. It had some good songs, but it was really missing the heart that always had come through in their music. To me it felt like a huge step down, which was very disappointing after learning it was going to be produced by Dave Cobb. I think i hyped it up too much. Oh well.. let's hope their next one is better!
