Anyone ever listened to Kasey Anderson? Alt-country from Portland, he got out of prison last year for fraud (he claimed he was doing a tribute cd with a bunch of big name artists and got investors to back it). Understand if people don't want to support him but he's quite good. Kasey Anderson, Portland Singer-Songwriter Who Stole $600,000 in a Fake Charity Scam, Is Out of Prison and Playing Music Again
Listened to this a few times and it’s a good follow up to Delilah. Just gonna pretend that “Girlfriend” isn’t a track on there — feels so out of place and like it was thrown on there cause he needed a radio hit.
Yeah, I'm not huge on that one. I wish he would do more ballads. He does the soulful rave up thing so well, but "Cabinet Door" is a seriously moving song, and I'd love to hear more of that Ryan Adams style from him. That and "What a Woman Needs to Hear" are my favorite songs of his.
I’m really enjoying the Anderson East album. Also, I really like what the huge sounding songs like “Girlfriend” add to the album. It makes the ballads hit harder, and they’re a lot of fun
I saw it on your list @Craig Manning but probably my biggest surprise of 2017 was Danielle Bradbery's "I Don't Believe We've Met". There's a few super catchy songs on there, "Messy" gets stuck in my head.
Yeah, I didn't see that one coming at all. It was the last premiere of the year on NPR and I checked it out without knowing really anything about her. Definitely very pop-leaning, to the point where I'd be more inclined to call it a pop album than a country album, but she's got talent for sure.
The only thing I knew about her was that she won The Voice when she was like 16 or something, but yeah she's got some talent. Especially if she co-wrote a bunch of those songs.
Inside Country Radio's Dark History of Sexual Harassment and Misconduct Pretty essential reading about the toxic culture of country radio and why the deck is so stacked against female artists.
Been meaning to read this. On a related note, noted douchebag and bro-country enabler Bobby Bones got in an embarrassing argument the other day on twitter where he whined about how "difficult" it was to play female artists on country radio.
I don't know much about Bones. Is he a douche? He's championed a few artists and songs I like over the past few years.
This album is really, really great. Loved the EP but totally forgot the full length was coming out until today.
I loved the EP too, but she kind of fell off my radar because it took so long for the album to happen. But yeah, I'm blown away. Really great songwriting elevated by even better vocals.
This album is a big step forward for him. A lot of white Americana artists lift the Stax horns thing and none of them do it as well as he does here.
It's almost crazy to me how much he improved in one album. I liked the debut, but it felt like he was reaching in a few areas, both vocally and stylistically. Everything sounds so much more comfortable here. And yes, the horns are delicious.
