The new Dead Man Winter album might be Dave Simonett's best work which in my opinion is really saying something as I love Trampled by Turtles. This album is just crushing though, some of the lyrics are on this are tough to hear.
April is going to be a great month! All These Dreams was hit or miss for me, but I am confident Mr. Combs can put together an album that I absolutely love. I absolutely adored 3 or 4 tracks on his last release. Gonna be tough for Sam Outlaw to top Angeleno. In my opinion, Angeleno is damn near a perfect album.
He went into the studio in January. I'm guessing we'll hear a single in April or May and get the album in July or August.
I really hope its July. Earlier in the summer the better. I'm just craving something new from him, and he is perfect for the summer IMO
He doesn't strike me as someone to tinker in the studio for very long, and he owns his own label, so there shouldn't be a super long roll-out or anything. His last two have been June/July, so I'm guess the same for this one.
So I got into a handful of country artists last year - mainly Simpson, McKenna, Isbell, and Stapleton - but I'm not sure where to go from here. Are any of the 'mainstream' country artists - IE Chesney, Urban, etc - worth a listen? cc @Craig Manning @Deanna
First place you'll want to start this year is this: Natalie Hemby - Puxico • chorus.fm Based on the artists you like, I'd probably advise you to steer away from guys like Urban and Chesney, at least for now. I don't think either of them are bad, but they're also a long way from Sturgill or Isbell. If you like Isbell, you'll probably love John Moreland's High on Tulsa Heat. I don't want to overwhelm you, you I'll just rec those two to start.
I'd say Maren Morris is worth a listen. She hit it big and is pretty mainstream now I guess. Kacey Musgraves, too. Like @Craig Manning said though, don't want to be too overwhelming haha. But if you want really mainstream stuff I adore Carrie Underwood and Miranda Lambert.
I agree with Maren Morris and obviously Kacey Musgraves, and I'll add Zac Brown Band, who kinda got me back into country when a lot of bad stuff was on the radio
Maybe because their last album was weird and is been a couple years anyway. but their songs still play everywhere
Yeah I just don't listen to the radio a whole lot so that's probs why haha. I listen to too many podcasts to worry about listening to the radio much.
Yeah podcasts are a big part of the reason I'm always behind on music. but I meant I hear them playing in stores and stuff all the time, haha
