This song is so good. I think i like this version better than the one Andrew Combs released on his last album. Both are good though.
i was tougher on sturgill than i probably needed to be. his album's are fine. just don't like the way his trajectory is playing out. unrelated but i hope we get another justin townes earle album soon
I've been on a huge JTE binge lately. The fall season does that to me. Also, is there a site similar to this that covers this music? I tried No Depression and didn't really like it much.
There aren't really any sites that cover the genre super well, imo. They either bandwagon super hard on the mainstream stuff (Taste of Country) or they are extremely bitter about how mainstream country sucks (Saving Country Music). I still follow both of those and get good recs from them from time to time, but I definitely don't read much if any of their full articles/reviews. Rolling Stone Country actually does a pretty good job. Their main draw is their "Country Artists You Should Know" lists, but they also have cool interview/feature pieces from time to time. And American Songwriter is decent for the more folk/Americana side of things.
Josh Ritter's Beast in its tracks is finally clicking. Great news musically but shit news interpersonally. Ah well. "Joy to you baby, wherever you are" is such a killer line.
Pretty stellar winners list from last night's CMA Awards, all things considered. Glad to see albums/songs/years from Maren Morris, Stapleton, Brothers Osborne, Eric Church, and Lori McKenna get recognized.
I'm really liking all 3 songs that have been released from Miranda Lambert's upcoming album. I've never been fully into into one of her releases but this one is shaping up really good.
New Ronnie Dunn is streaming on NPR. It's very solid if you like 90s style mainstream country. Dude still has one of the great country voices. On;y real complaint I have is that it may as well be a concept album about alcohol. He mentions it in every single song. Balanced off by the awesomeness of the least-expected Ariana Grande cover ever though.
