I haven't really been blown away either. Both Burn.Flicker.Die. and Wolves are albums I like a lot with a few songs each that I think are incredible, but neither are quite albums I love. This one feels like it could be. I think it's also helped by the fact that he kept it brief.
Female Country Stars Kacey Musgraves, Cam, Maren Morris and More on Industry Sexism, the 'Freak Show' Presidential Election and Tomato-gate
Anyone a fan of that Cam record from last year? It's got a few duds but is mostly pretty solid. A couple great tunes, too.
Can't say I'm a fan of it, but it's not awful. Just left me feeling bored. Also I have an inherent dislike for anyone who goes by a single name moniker that isn't Prince.
Haha, laughed at that. I thought she did pop country well. I was less taken with her ballads and her "rockier" tracks. It's also a Dave Cobb production, so you know it's good.
Rolling Stone is streaming another new song by The Drive By Truckers Hear Drive-By Truckers' Searching 'What It Means' It is amazing that this band lost Jason Isbell and still are writing some of the best songs in the genre.
Gave the new Jake Owen album a listen and really just felt that it was an okay album. Nothing stood out to me on first listen.
I'd have to agree. I don't think it's a bad album, just a bit average. Need another few listens though.
Same here. Threw it on as background music at work and started paying attention about half way through and immediately had to restart it and listen again more closely.
Lovely new song from Mandolin Orange, who put out one of my favorite records of last year. Their new one comes out at the end of September.
any opinions on the new David Nail album? Haven't listened to it yet, but I've liked some of his stuff in the past quite a bit, especially his song with Will Hoge.
It's pretty solid. Very ballad-heavy. I think every track after the first two is either a ballad or a mid-tempo sort-of-ballad. The songs with Lori McKenna and Vince Gill are probably my favorites.
Paste just posted their 50 best alt-country albums of all time. The avetts being on their twice is questionable, but overall not a terrible list, but wouldn't say it's that great either.. The 50 Best Alt-Country Albums of All Time
Great to see the Jayhawks so high up, and it is hard to argue with the top 5, but I think Avett shouldnt be near the list, Justin Townes Earles should have Midnight at the Movies on the list, and they picked the wrong Steve Earle albums.
To me that was the problem with several of these. It seemed like the right artists but not always the right album. I would have the dirty south for DBT instead of decoration day, the Steve Earle ones are questionable, I would flip the Gillian Welch albums around that they chose, for Neko Case I'd say blacklisted is her best. Also no Whiskeytown on here at all is surprising.
Oh and while I'm at it, fuck everything about Chris Lane. I didn't think it could get any worse than Florida Georgia Line or Kane Brown but here we are.
So Miranda Lambert performed the Little Feat song Willin' to close the CMA festival, and it was awesome. The original is one of my all-time favorite songs, and I also love the Linda Ronstadt cover. I'm hoping this winds up on Miranda's next album. She covered an old Emmylou tune on one of her records so I could see it happening.
