I'm listening to the whole album again right now to give it another chance. maybe I just wasn't really in the mood or right headspace or something when I first listened.
Oh that’s a shame because “Butterfly Season” is my other top track. It’s one of the best albums of the year but there are some duds that kill the momentum. Try my rearrangement! (Though I’m not a “Speaking Terms” guy.
I'll definitely give this tracklist a shot I've noticed something with the very long album trend, where if an album just isn't compelling enough to me for whatever reason then I dip out before the whole thing, like I know I have this huge hill to run up still and it's just not seeming like it's worth the effort, where if the whole thing is only 10 or 11 tracks I would most likely power through all the way no, this is not logical and doesn't even really make sense to me haha
It’s very logical, that’s why I cut the Noah Kahan album in half too. I have a whole folder on Spotify of revised tracklist albums.
the Noah Kahan album is a funny one for me, because I objectively think that 21 songs / 1 hr 36 min is probably too long for an album, but out of all of those songs, there is only one that I think is a bad song and one other one that I'm not crazy about, which is a pretty crazy batting average
I thought Still Hungover (and her prior EP for that matter) is a far superior record. I like her more rock-y stuff. Her new record is not for me at all.
it's Zach Bryan syndrome. none of the songs are outright bad, but there's not enough variety to hang out there for 90+ min.
I get what you're saying, but I think I sorta misspoke before - I absolutely love 17 out of the 21 songs on the longer version of this album, as in I think they are just flat-out incredible songs I suppose I could see the lack of variety argument, but again, when the songs are so goddamn good I don't think it bothers me quite so much
Happy for you! It’s too same-y for me when every track is five minutes long. I think the back half of the album in particular loses its momentum because it ends like four times.
It’s a massive issue for many artists. A lot of them are making playlist albums and not true albums. I would prefer if they took the effort to cut it down to 40-60 minutes (I laugh as two of my all-timers are closer to 80 minutes). But they’re having massive success with what they currently do. So can’t blame the artists for doing that.
I just wish that if artists were going to do this, they'd use it as an opportunity to take bigger swings and try out all sorts of different types of songs, production styles, influences, etc. That's just not typically how it shakes out.
a bunch of great new singles out today! doing a roundup. can't be more excited for the Laci Kaye Booth sophomore effort. she seems to be leaning further into traditional country songwriting and instrumentation on this song while maintaining her smoky bar vocals. I get why this Maren Morris song was left off HERO, but man is it good to hear her back in her early pop country mode. this is a week old but we aren't talking about it nearly enough. the people wanted a windows-down Tenille Townes song and they got it! (it's me, I'm the people.) Devon Again doing a country song is basically a Chappell Roan "The Giver" type situation, but she pulls it off really well. snake the drain Lainey Wilson is hit and miss for me and this is a HIT. that chorus does everything I want it to do and there's always room for a John Mayer guitar tone in summer! Phone, Keys, Wallet Bonner Black rides the line of belonging in this thread, starting more folk/country before heading into a more indie/pop direction. this new track from her upcoming EP belongs right next to the fantastic Stella Lefty EP from a few weeks ago.
