Need to do some more sequencing work but here’s where I’m at with Ella. Could drop another 2 or 3 but I’m seeing if they grow on me (“We Know Us”, “Speaking Terms”, “Wasn’t God…”). “Butterfly Season” works perfectly as a closer, wondering if she didn’t do that because it’s the only feature.
“Somethin’ Simple” is the only song that even belongs in the conversation with the pre-release singles to me.
Man I love the bridge of “Butterfly Season”. Great example of that perfect liftoff you get when the rhyme and melody work perfectly together.
oh wow, I agree - I've only listened to this album twice, but "Speaking Terms" was absolutely a highlight for me, no question
Stereogum picked him as an artist to watch! Really interesting interview, sounds like he’s finished his debut full-length already for a potential Q4 release. Another reason for folks in this thread to give the Nellene EP a listen. Artist To Watch: Deloyd Elze
I didn’t love the last Charley Crockett album and had the “he needs to slow down” thought…then he drops another album a month later and I do love it lol. Maybe it’s just hitting at the right time but this is one of my favorites of his in a while
for sure this new one insanely grabbing me more than the last few. Kinda wild he left his label and dropped this on his own. I can’t find any info about physical release / his website is still under Island so it’s not gonna have anything about it. He’s gone rogue !
I was going to talk shit on Charley for dropping a bunch of "good not great" albums that mostly sound the same, but this is a great change of pace
Nowhere else to really post this, but caught Luke Combs tonight. What an immense show. Balanced introducing new album tracks with all the hits. Seems like a genuinely great guy, too. “Hurricane” was so early in the set I didn’t think the energy could stay that high and I was majorly wrong. Really liked Ty Myers’ support set. Dierks Bentley did exactly what main support is supposed to do, but he was never my favorite. Kinda wild seeing him 19 years later since he was supporting a different concert I went to in high school. M
I hadn't heard of this artist before, but new album just came out today from Josiah and the Bonnevilles and it's really great
More folk than country but close enough. This new Ramsey Thornton album sounded pretty nice on first listen.
I was underwhelmed by my first listen of 49 Winchester's new one. Three songs at the end were the highlights. Ryan Bingham and the Texas Gentlemen record is great though. Highly recommend checking that one out.
