Act I First big release of the year I'm looking forward to is Kashus' debut, out next Friday. I love all of the singles released so far. I hear some Stapleton on the more soulful side of his sound, but also has a few southern rock bangers (Southern Man features Marcus King).
Aussie artist currently cleaning up our version of the CMAs - won best new artist and male artist. Is opening for Shane Smith at one of their Ryman shows next month and is opening for Treaty Oak on a bunch of their shows.
Gooseneck Party is an early Kenny Chesney song in all of the right ways. Loving this so far. Great rec!
so far in my listening, my favourite country album of 2025 is/was william prince's further from the country
i imagine many of you are hip to this already, but for the unfamiliar, art lown was a one-and-done cosmic country artist from the mid-70s who was sadly murdered soon after this was put out. i just discovered this morning but my god, its 23 minutes of country immediacy. beautiful from front to back, FFO Gene Clark
Excited to check out that Emily Scott Robinson album. Also out today, the new album from Bre Kennedy, who is country-adjacent and definitely has a Golden Hour kind of thing going on with her record, called The Alchemist. I think people in here would dig it!
Ella Langley is 2 for 2 on this cycle! getting a Maren Morris Humble Quest feel from this song. album's coming in April, a little bummed it's 18 tracks but I guess that's just the way things are these days in Nashville.
Only halfway through the new Megan Maroney but it’s got some great songs. Nothing as instantly indelible as “6 Months Later” yet, but tons to love that build out her world. “Convincing” is a good concept with a lovely swooning chorus, “Stupid” feels inspired by Sabrina Carpenter (and yep, there’s Amy Allen in the credits), and “Liars & Tigers & Bears” should join any playlist of post 2010s songs about women in the industry.
“Change of Heart” rips on the new Megan Maroney album. A lot of stuff before this felt very same-y to me, but not bad.
yeah my favorites (besides "6 Months Later" and "Wish I Didn't", which are great great singles): Convincing Change of Heart Stupid Liars & Tigers & Bears Medicine "Bells & Whistles" was fun for me on first listen without looking at the tracklist, because it's very clearly a Kacey-indebted song and then she just shows up and proves it. If we're doing tracklist sequencing conversations (again, after one listen), I'd have dropped "I Only Miss You", "Wedding Dress", and "Beautiful Things" as inessential. I don't love the closer but it's probably the only song that could have worked in the flow, even though I'm not sure the album has much of a theme. Maybe "Who Hurt You?" could work, but right now it feels like Moroney trying to do the dramatic part of Billie's "Louder Than Ever". Hoping it grows on me!
Yeah, was able to pick it up again and finish. Really was going for that Billie build there certainly.
Nice! Just reading the explanation now and the fact that she describes it as simple, honest, and sparse makes it sound like my wish is coming true.
