Billy Strings said he worked with Jon Brion on Highway Prayers partly because he was familiar with him from "the Mac Miller stuff" (ie. finishing Circles). That gave me a big smile knowing Billy has some Machead in him.
I’ve been twice but both times were prob around 10 years ago. It’s a really good time but my recommendation is to find a venue that has a solid lineup and just stay there. Tickets give you access too shows all over Nashville and It’s fun to bounce around from venue to venue trying to catch all your favorite artists but can also be hit and miss as to if you will be able to get in, especially for the bigger names. Plus traffic/parking has just gotten worse in the past 10 years so I can see that being a bigger headache than it used to be. Also look out for some of the random free showcases going on in town where you can see some solid shows and don’t even need tickets. Most of the record stores have really good events that week. Also if you find you are really only interested in one specific show/artist you can just buy a single ticket for that show that night at the venue, and not worry about getting a festival pass. This is what I did the second time, they had Glen Hansard, Josh Ritter, and Tift Merrit on the same show so I just bought tickets for that one showcase.
Legend, thanks for the advice! I totally lucked out with the timing and am freakin excited. Should be epic!
I posted this in a few other threads, but Paramount+ just did a huge live music drop. A ton of CMT Crossroads performances are up there now.
Muscadine Bloodline is releasing "...and What Was Left Behind" on April 11th. Coastal Plain was one of my 2024 favorites, so this immediately jumps to the top of my most anticipated.
New Charles Wesley Godwin EP out today. Also, more singer/songwriter than country but so far I’m enjoying the new Sean McConnell out today.
Highly recommend this new album from Lou Hazel. He’s probably more well known as an artist and photographer, but I believe that will change pretty quickly. RIYL Paul Simon, John Prine, James Taylor, John Moreland.
Alt-country/Americana/whatever. Just got a solid review on p4k. I really like the first two songs. Out tomorrow.
Anybody seen Sturgill Simpson live? He’s playing here in Oslo on Monday; debating whether to go or to another show (electronic artist Tycho)
saw him on Friday in Copenhagen. Original band, no openers, new set every night with three hours of jams spanning his entire discography. He posts recordings of all the shows on nugs.net if you want to sample before deciding, but there really aren’t many better sounding bands touring right now. So good
Thanks all, you got me quite hyped for the show, haha. "The Ballad of Doon & Juanita" was my most listened to album of the year a few years ago, so excited to hopefully hear some tunes from that. I'm an American living over 3 years in Norway now, and I'm starting to miss home more often lately, so looking forward to some great live country and Americana tunes.
