Really liking the new Sierra Ferrell record on first listen. A lot of songs that’ll do well as sing-a-longs live immediately, hah
I’m not an huge country fan, but I love Orville Peck’s last album and still listen to it. Are any of these other artists touring with him worth checking out? Cant wait for the show!
The new Dustin Kensrue album is great, you can tell this has been something he has had in him for a while. It is fully fleshed out unlike a lot of solo albums.
I don’t have any idea how they go about curating these, but this is a pretty underwhelming list of artists outside of Dolly. I feel like there are tons of country/adjacent artists that could do Tom Petty way more justice. Caamp, Jason Isbell, John Moreland, Zach Bryan, Kacey Musgraves, Madi Diaz, Adeem The Artist, Stephen Wilson Jr, Turnpike, Childers, Morgan Wade, Gregory Alan Isakov, Katie Pruitt.
Stapleton has so much Petty in him as an artist that I'm excited to see his name on the list, and I think that Brothers Osborne cover will be great, too. I agree with you otherwise, though. A lot of mainstream country artists who don't seem to have much kinship with who Petty was or the music he made. Versus Isbell, who covered a different Petty song every night during his Ryman residency the fall that Petty died. Would have been a great opportunity to get a recording of his sublime "Refugee" cover, especially since that song is inexplicably not represented here.
A mate of mine has gotten me into a bunch of stuff lately - hoping to find some other stuff I may like in here! My favs that I’m listening to are: Benjamin Tod Arlo McKinley Drayton Farley Vincent Neil Emerson Pony Bradshaw
Sharing this bc this is a great session and I think these guys are one of the best bands out there and nobody ever talks about them.
"Outskirts" is one of my favorite pop country songs ever. Really solid EP, tbh. I like him way more than most, though.
