I saw that was streaming and skipped right over it bc of how disappointed I was in the first single she released. I'm sure I'll give it a listen though eventually.
I'll give it a listen eventually. Have you heard the new album by the honeycutters? It's probably my favorite female country album this year so far. Right up there with Margo Price.
I was kind of split on it. I think there are some really good songs, but I also think he goes down the self indulgence rabbit hole a few too many times. The closing track (I think) was an interminable slog. I also am not 100% sold on his voice, though, so you will probably enjoy this more than me. On first listen, I was weirdly split between really loving like six tracks and not really caring for the others. I bet they grow on me though. It didn't really feel like a huge "sell out" record to me though.
I'm actually liking the new Daniel Romano for the most part. It's a grower, mostly just due to how unexpected it is. It's his weakest stuff yet, but I'd hardly call it "bad". Not too big on the production style on the record though. Maybe that's what's throwing me off the most?
Some artists that I haven't seen mentioned in the thread, that are worth checking out: Lydia Loveless Andrew Combs Ryan Bingham (surprised I haven't seen his name) James McMurtry Uncle Lucius
Just got Same Trailer, Different Park delivered on vinyl and I'm very excited about it. Was $10 on Amazon and still is right now. Here's a link for anyone interested: http://amzn.to/1stvJfB
McMurtry's album was my AOTY last year and in my opinion maybe his best album. One of the best songwriters out there.
I enjoy it quite a bit so far too. Not sure I like it as much as his last album just yet, but I may after more time. Robert Ellis is one of those guys I am always so surprised doesn't get more attention than he does. Joe Pug also falls into that category.
McMurtry is excellent! When he's in town (Austin), he'll play two shows/week. I go see him perform as often as possible. He is about to go on tour. You should catch him if he is swinging through your town.
What do you guys think of this 8-song collaboration project with Little Big Town and Pharrell? Not too crazy about the one song I've heard, but it's hopefully just a quick departure for Little Big Town who actually has some decent country (with some Fleetwood Mac inspiration) in their catalog.
For sure check out complicated game. Childish things was my favorite till I heard that one. They are both amazing though.
That's why I come to this thread...SO much to look forward to, especially with country not being ever considered a genre I was ever into, but there are tons of talented people creating amazing tunes that aren't just about heavy guitars (which I still love of course)
I've always somewhat liked Country but I never really go into it because I focused on other things. I know the classics, and I know some modern stuff, but not much. I'm telling you this because I'm really into the last Kacey Musgrave's album (which I found out about because she was on The Fader cover, just letting you know so you know how little I am in touch with the genre) and I'm looking for more stuff like it. iTunes recommends Miranda Lambert and artists like that, but those sound really different to me, it's not at all what I'm looking for. I also like the last two Sturgill Simpson albums by the way, but that is also not what I'm looking for. I'd appreciate suggestions.
