I was kinda disappointed in the album after all the Isbell comparisons, tbh. He doesn’t have the voice or the writing chops Jason does, imo.
He definitely doesn’t and I wasn’t trying to say he was, was just throwing out there that I’ve read comments from people that think this album is better than some of Isbells recent material. But I agree he’s not on Isbells level, but I still think the comparison is pretty obvious.
I listened to the album and thought it was pretty good, but I can't lie, all of the Isbell comparisons really made me think of Owen Wilson's character in The Royal Tenenbaums Eli Cash when he's asking on the phone about the reviewer specifically pointing out that he's *not* a genius. With the band and his voice / singing style, it was extremely hard not to mentally keep making the comparison the entire time.
Okay so I highly recommend Stephen Wilson Jrs new little EP that came out on Friday. His voice reminds me of Travis Meadows.
One of the absolute best in the business has a new one out today, first new solo album since 2016. The artwork is awful, but listened this morning and the album is a beauty.
New Tenille Townes EP is a sequel title to her breakout EP. Very into it after two tracks, this is the right sound for her. Haven’t heard the “Landslide” cover yet.
I don’t know! I have a big queue and she keeps getting pushed off it. I just weirdly think she can’t be much of an album artist even though I very much enjoy the singles. It’s not personal haha I’m just weird.
Silly Matty haha. Her newest EP is “part 1 of 3” of her full length. The whole EP is mostly solid. So I assume the full album should be pretty great too, whenever it comes out.
My favorites in the last month or so are Drayton Farley and Stephen Wilson Jr. Also Ruston Kelly, but calling him country is a bit of a stretch these days.
My favorite has been Dougie Poole’s The Rainbow Wheel of Death. I’ve also enjoyed recent albums by Dylan Earl, Esther Rose, Doug Paisley, Tim Hill, Robbie Fulks, and William Prince. My number 1 album this year is Sons of Rainier’s new one, not exactly country, but close enough.
I’m very far removed from country, however I just heard my first Morgan Wallen song. Im very aware of his success and his racist outburst scandal. This just sounds like very general bro country, can someone explain why he’s having some insane chart success?
i mean that's definitely why it's sustained but, as much as i hate dude, we can't pretend like the album wasn't a massive success before any of that happened.
