This may be a vague request but does anyone have good country recs for a wedding reception? I'm maid of honor and my friend and her fiance love country and I'm trying to help with a reception playlist and want to add more country. I think she tends to prefer 90s country to current but they're also just fans in general. Both lovey and dance upbeat suggestions welcome. It's a music blind spot. I'm just blindly combing thru the spotify country playlists
Oh boy, not sure I can help you out here. Most of the stuff I listen to is sad and not suited for a wedding haha.
Lol yeah I had to be careful to listen and read closely to lyrics on the spotify playlists cause the country love song ones still had lots of sad definitely not love songs. If I listen to country it's usually the "screw you for cheating on me I'm gonna burn your house down" kind which isn't great for weddings haha
Can share a few from my own wedding playlist - I'd say they're mostly on the lovey-er side :) Sam Outlaw: Love Her for a While Kacey Musgraves: Late to the Party Chris Stapleton: More of You Caitlyn Smith: Breakfast in the Afternoon Sturgill Simpson: Juanita John Prine: Look at Us Natalie Hemby: Lovers on Display Drew Holcomb & the Neighbors: What Would I Do Without You Amanda Shires: Harmless Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit: If We Were Vampires Steve Earle: Nothin' Without You
My best friend and his wife had their first dance to Lady May by Tyler Childers. Would also recommend Feathered Indians by him but probably listen to it first it’s got an explicit tag lol. And it’s country-ish but my wife and I had our first dance to Pistol by Dustin Kensrue
Upbeat country for a wedding reception: Maren Morris - I Can’t Love You Anymore Kacey Musgraves - Late to the Party / Golden Hour Miranda Lambert - I’ll Be Lovin You Brothers Osborne - A Little Bit Trouble George Strait - Check Yes or No Shania Twain - You’re Still The One Dolly Parton - Here You Come Again Trisha Yearwood - She’s In Love With The Boy Faith Hill - This Kiss Taylor Swift - Our Song Steve Moakler - Hard Not To Love It Zach Bryan - The Greatest Day of My Life Bonny Light Horseman - California For the love of god, vet these song suggestions yourself! I absolutely would not want to put “If We Were Vampires” on during a wedding reception if it weren’t the first dance song.
Hahah, you're absolutely right. "More of You" was our first dance song, but Vampires was a runner-up so that one was really mainly there for us rather than the guests' sake. Come to think of it, "When I'm With You" and "Joy of My Life" might be reception-friendlier Stapleton picks as well.
Been looking forward to both of these for a while and fully expect them to both be favorites of mine this year.
New Drayton Farley album out today sounds good so far. Though I will say the choice to work with Sadler Vaden and the rest of the 400 unit seems like a weird one for a guy who sounds almost exactly like Isbell at times.
I’m really surprised there hasn’t been more buzz around the new Drayton Farley album, especially considering how strongly he is being compared to Isbell who seems to have a pretty decent following around here. The Isbell comparisons obviously make sense, and he didn’t do himself any favors on separating himself from those comparisons by working with the 400 unit, but it’s actually a really solid album that I imagine several around here would enjoy it. I’ve read a few comments like “best Isbell album since Southeastern” lol.
Admittedly, I liked his last two better! A Hard Up Life was rad and felt more like himself. I wouldn’t have drawn as hard as a comparison to Isbell back then, but this most recent one he really leans into it.
