I feel like I've heard Old No. 1? But I'll revisit that and those other two. I listened to My Favorite Picture of You for the first time in awhile after I read that he had passed. Really like that album.
Has anybody hear heard of Kyle Craft? I just heard his debut album for the first time today and was blown away. Its like a mix of David Bowie, Bob Dylan, Neutral Milk Hotel, and the Band. Sometimes the vocals also have a Freddy Mercury feel to them. One of the more interesting albums I've heard recently. By the way this def isn't country just thought some people in here might enjoy this.
Agree, I probably listened to the entire thing front to back 4 or 5 times today. This album came completely out of nowhere for me.
Not sure if there are any fans of Sarah Jarosz, but her new album showed up in my inbox yesterday and it's pretty fantastic. Here's the single:
Cass McCombs new album is coming in August. New song sounds great. Cass McCombs Announces New Album and Tour, Shares New Track: Listen | Pitchfork
Great thread, registered just so I could keep up and contribute. Many of the artists being mentioned here are new to me, so I can't wait to dive in. As for recommendations, I'll toss out a couple that haven't been mentioned much yet and also reiterate some of the better suggestions. If you're like me, and you enjoy the lighter, prettier, more airy female voices in country music (Kacey Musgraves, Ashley Monroe, Margo Price, etc), you really should check out, if you haven't already: Lee Ann Womack: Her daughter, Aubrie Sellers: Alison Krauss: Dolly Parton: Emmylou Harris: I'll put some of my favorite male country artists in another post, don't want to overwhelm!
So everyone seems to already dig Isbell, Stapleton, and Sturgill. So I'll throw out some others I haven't seen mentioned much. Chris Knight: Charlie Robison: Steve Earle: Ronnie Fauss: (Phosphorescent cover) Son Volt:
Yeah, definitely check her out. She inherited some of mama's talent for sure. She was the older kid in the I Hope You Dance video.
That Aubrie Sellers record is definitely one of my favorites of the year. She's a big talent for sure.
New Daniel Romano is a pretty big departure, not sure how I feel about it yet. The new Austin Lucas is pretty solid, though I can never listen to him for too long bc his voice begins to irritate me after a while.
Feel the same way about Austin Lucas. Stay Reckless is probably the album where I enjoy his voice most. You listened to the new Robert Ellis yet?
Those Chris Knight songs are legit. He is consistently great. I need to check out Daniel Romano and Austin Lucas next.
I haven't gotten a chance to just yet other than the 2 or 3 songs he had already released. I really liked his last 2 albums so I am looking forward to it. What did you think of it?
I picked up Logan Brill's last album today, really quite nice and fits nicely alongside Lee Ann Womack, Ashley Monroe, etc.
Lol I just came here to post about this. Mosey is completely crazy compared to his previous stuff. Not like anything he's ever done before. That said, I'm liking it more and more every listen. It's not a country album though. Here's one with Gord Downie because of the recent news :( Here's my fav
Yeah I'm coming around to it, just not what I expected. I really liked his album from last year and was hoping for more of the same I guess. With multiple listens now I've started to appreciate it more than I did initially.
I find it really hard not to dance to it. I think Sleep Beneath the Willow is my favourite record of his. Not counting the Attack in black stuff of course.
The mainstreaming of Brandy Clark's sound on this new album is very disappointing. Not even close to as good a fit on her, imo. That said, she's still a tremendous songwriter and songs like "You Can Come Over" and "Love Can Go to Hell" are phenomenal.
