Never been a huge Charley Crockett fan but this new album is really nice. Reminds me of some of the early Justin Townes Earle albums how he mixes country with R&B and soul.
I held a grudge against the guy for the longest time solely because of "She Thinks My Tractor's Sexy", but once I decided to give him a fair shake I found a good deal of songs I enjoyed, and I have to respect his appreciation for Guy Clark. But that being said, I rarely ever listen to him unless one of his songs comes up when I shuffle my country spotify playlist.
How's everyone feel about the new Tyler Childers? Anyone know what he's doing? Song's pretty good, just not sure what to make of the whole concept
I mostly think what I’ve heard of Chesney is pander-y bullshit, but I have a big soft spot for “Soul of a Sailor”
I never really gave Chesney the time of day until a few years ago when he cut an amazing Travis Meadows song for one of his albums. That record turned out to be a super sincere tribute to St. John Island after it was ravaged by a hurricane. There were some typical pander-y country radio singles on there, but the album as a whole was pretty effective.
Speaking of straight-arrow male country singers, George Strait keeps rising in my esteem as I hear more prime ‘80s albums of his
] I feel like he was hyping it so much on socials then just stopped talking about it for a few months. Hoping for anything soon. Dying to hear that Michael Keaton song.
Was excited for it since the first single but it hasn't panned out the way I was hoping it would as a full album.
My thing with Kelsea is that I usually come away from her albums wishing she'd pick a lane. Either go full pop or steer more traditional singer-songwriter/country. I think she's really pretty good at both (maybe a little better at the pop side) but the albums sometimes feel disjointed because she's trying to not go too far in one direction or the other.
Peter Pan still slaps though. Was bummed she did a super weird variation of it when I saw her live a couple years back.
I know Allison Russell, Drive-By Truckers, Joy Oladukun, Andy Shauf, Bonny Light Horseman, Elvis Costello, Steve Earle, Amethyst Kiah, Emmylou Harris, Lucius, Marcus Mumford, The Tallest Man on Earth, and Yasmin Williams but any other artists y’all would recommend?
Charley Crocket, SG Goodman, Tre Burt, Aoife O’Dobovan, Jake Blount, and The Dead Tongues are all great .
