Our little local alt-country-ish fest has a better lineup each year, I swear. Absolutely packed to the gills this year with artists I'm excited for
I think a lot of people around here would really like the new Molly Tuttle album. It’s a good blend of bluegrass and americana and has some really cool features like Margo Price, Gillian Welch, Billy Strings etc.. I’d say if you liked Billy Strings last album you’d like this. Similar style just less the jam band vibe. Also she’s just a killer guitar player.
I thought Pony was merely decent, so I’m a little surprised by how much I’m enjoying this new Orville Peck album. The Jay Joyce production really suits his voice and writing style. Caitlyn Smith’s new album is also a true return-to-form album for me, as Supernova never grew on me the way I hoped it would. Really nice release week with Molly Tuttle and Calexico as well!
Orville Peck has always been extremely just okay for me. New one isn't doing much to change that. Like, it's enjoyable enough but there's just nothing that hooks me. But yeah, new Molly Tuttle is good as hell.
Not a country expert by any means, but interested to see what y'all think of this list: 15 current country singers every indie fan needs to know
Kind of a weird article lol but every artist on that list that I know I also like Ian Noe and Morgan Wade by far the best two on there though
Yeah the article in general is weird. But agree, it’s a solid list, Ian Noe and Margo Cilker particularly for me. I’m also a bag Tre Burt fan but I don’t consider him country.
Lot of good artists on that list. Ian, Hailey, Margo, and Morgan in particular for me. I'm excited for Kaitlin Butts new one tomorrow based on the songs ive heard so far
BJ Barham is one of the best out there right now. First single from the upcoming American Aquarium album.
Been getting caught up on a bunch of releases from the last couple years lately and I just have to say I do not get the Cody Johnson hype at all. That double album was a chore to get through. Like he's still better than bullshit like Walker Hayes but since being better than Walker Hayes et al is a bar you just have to gently step over to clear, that's really not saying much.
I like this. The production feels a little fuller and less plasticky than her debut. "When's It Gonna Happen" is a highlight that reminds me a lot of John Mayer's "Love Song for No One."
Yeah agreed, feels a little less "plasticky". "When's it gonna happen" is definitely the standout for me. I still miss the raw quality of her acoustic stuff that I was first introduced to but it seems like this is the lane she's chosen.
