If you are talking 2022 releases, here’s the ones I’ve really enjoyed so far. The last 3 are probably more folk than country. Aoife O’Donovan - The Age of Apathy Brent Cobb - And Now Let’s Turn to Page.. Erin Rae - Lighten Up Lost Dog Street Band - Glory Jake Xerxes Fussel - Good And Green Again Anais Mitchell - s/t Grace Cummings - Storm Queen Also a couple from last year I’m still listening to Buffalo Nichols - s/t Margo Cilker - Pohorylle John R. Miller - Depreciated Allison Russel - Outside Child Natalie Bergman - Mercy
apropos of nothing but what i *don't* love is paul cauthen. one of his older songs came up on my country/americana playlist today and it just reminded me that while i don't think he's ever been anything special, at least his older output was good. everything after My Gospel just sounds like bad pastiche, to say nothing of that absolute pile of hot dogshit "country as fuck" single.
So I was busy with Gang of Youths on Friday but Amanda Anne Platt released a new one. Big fan of her.
Zach Bryan put out the first single from his new album and it’s pretty great. Especially since it’s his first ( I think ) full band studio song.
Always excited for new music from Caitlyn. Kind of wild that it's been long enough to be on to a new album cycle, since Supernova came out on March 13, 2020 and was the album I was listening to as the world fell apart.
New Karl Blau album came out last week and it’s pretty great. This guy has been cranking out solid music for years and just keeps flying under the radar.
Went and saw Margo Cilker tonight and was just so impressed. After a few months with her album I’m of the opinion it’s the best debut from this genre since Ian’s Noe’s Between The Country. I come back to it constantly.
holy shit I had no idea Ian Noe had a new album coming out and it’s almost here hell yes. His debut was so so good.
it’s closer to power pop than straight up country but Jeremy Ivey (Margo Price’s husband) dropped an album last week that’s very good 60s pastiche type stuff. she’s on one of the tracks.
Has anyone heard of Brennan Burns? Doesn't have any albums out yet but he's in Nashville doing his thing.
Other than some hilariously unnecessary interlude tracks, the new Hailey Whitters album is very good.
