Kind of digging the album from Radnor & Lee (duo comprised of Josh Radnor of How I Met Your Mother fame and Australian singer/songwriter Ben Lee). Golden State, by Radnor & Lee
Haha, I’ve had the same thought the few times I’ve listened to this album. Some great songs here, but also a few times that it tips way too far into Contemporary Christian territory.
I don't know, I admittedly wasn't paying 100% attention but that Tenille Townes did nothing for me on first listen outside of Beautiful Things.
New Corb Lund out today and it’s solid as always. Kyle Nix from Turnpike Troubadours new solo album is also out today.
It's a real shame. I agree -- even that less than a minute video in the van is a better version of that song than the one on the album.
I just do not understand why they introduced her with Worktapes if this was the route they were going to take. I think I'd like this album way more without knowing how much better everything could have sounded stripped down.
I came in to this= prepared to agree with you, but honestly the lyrics and general songwriting prowess is just so strong that the pop-inflected production doesn't bother me outside of "Somebody's Daughter". I haven't listened to Worktapes in a long while so that probably helped. The chorus of "Jersey on the Wall" just... come on: If I ever get to heaven, you know I got a long list of questions. Like how do you make a snowflake? Are you angry when the Earth quakes? How does the sky change in a minute? How do you keep this big rock spinning? And why can't You stop a car from crashing? Forgive me, I'm just asking.
Ultimately, that was the takeaway in my review: that the songs are just so good that they overcome the production. But I’ve listened to those Worktapes versions at least 60 or 70 times, so enjoying the new versions has taken some time.
That new Ryan Hurd ep with songs he wrote for other people (minus the opener I believe) is pretty cool
I know the big country release today is the new Margo Price album, but don’t overlook the new Joshua Ray Walker. Some really great tunes on here.
