I’ve recently been on a big blues kick, specifically the piedmont blues or acoustic blues. The genre seems like kind of a blind spot on this forum so I figured I’d throw a thread out there and see if it stirs up any conversation. Or at the very least maybe I’ll discover an album or artist I’ve never heard before.

Some of the main ones I’ve been really into lately

Buffalo Nichols debut album came out last year and it’s been on constant rotation ever since.

I’ve always been a Charlie Parr fan but I got a chance to finally see him live last year and he just ruled. All his albums are great but he also put out a new one last year and it’s just as good as anything he’s put out in his career. I’ve been especially obsessed with this tune.

I also recently stumbled upon Etta Baker, specifically her album Railroad Bill. It’s mostly instrumental piedmont blues style guitar, so it’s obviously not for everybody, but I started trying to recently learn how to play this style myself and have found a real appreciation for her music.

Wow. So happy I found this. I grew up on the blues thanks to my mom. My first concert ever was BB King and as I grew up I’d go downtown Chicago to see Buddy Guy.

His first album didn’t do much for me but I’m really into this new Early James album. Big time Tom Waits vibes at times.

I’m still very much a dabbler in blue even after all this time. I have trouble with modern blues. For some reason, high production value can take me out of it.

But Albert King’s Born Under a Bad Sign? Put it in my veins
