I really didn't like the entire art school thing with Pam, and also doesn't Jim leave again to NY? I remember him having a corporate position and Pam being against it....even though she took off for a few months for school.
If you thought that was cheesy wait until the wedding. I actually loved how they did the proposal, I thought it was noticeably lowkey and not that cheesy lol but it's been a while since I watched it
I actually love Pete. not a big fan of Clark but I didn't mind him either. I didn't like Nellie until Andy was a complete jerk to her. still can't stand Brian.
damn... i forgot how many bad / random characters this show randomly dropped on us in the last few seasons. bleh. also, something i will never forgive the show for is having big name stars on the show, not as themselves. that was kind of jumping the shark when they had Timothy Olyphant and others on. season 5 made it very clear that these people know who movie stars are (the episode where they debate if Hillary Swank is hot or not) (also season 2 or 3 when Michael misses seeing Conan) yet two seasons later they have Olyphant on as a character, not himself and no one knows who he is. not a big deal, but will always bug me. i think season 5 is when the show really started to feel like there were too many cooks in the kitchen and ideas really got muddled and watered down for the most part. there were still some solid gems / great moments in seasons 5-9 but aside from a few episodes i can't remember any as amazing, start to finish, as what seasons 2 & 3 had week in and week out.
His proposal just felt rushed and knowing Jim, he would have planned it out a bit more. I remember the wedding, but that was cheesy in a different way. I'm on episode 5 of the 5th season, where Holly gets transferred. I didn't really like Holly too much, and it's weird they introduced her and got rid of her so quickly.
I think I remember Mindy Kaling said she only had Olyphant come as a guest star because she was a huge fan of his. Also, the Hilary Swank hot or not is probably my least favorite B-story of the entire series.
I'm actually doing a rewatch now with my wife who had never seen the series. We are in the middle of S8 now and while that season got off to a slow start, I forgot how much I enjoyed the Tallahassee arc.
goddamn, Carell was fantastic in The Big Short. now watching season 4, it makes me realize (granted i already knew he was extremely talented) how great of an actor Carell is. i think too many people look at comedians and think it's not hard to do what they do, but it's just as difficult as "serious" actors (whatever the hell the difference or slight is supposed to mean). just like people suddenly realized Carrey could act after Truman Show / Eternal Sunshine / Man on the Moon. Granted he is a much different style of comedy than Carell as Michael Scott.
By most accounts comedy is harder than drama. I fully believe that it's definitely easier for a person known for comedy to excel in a dramatic role than vice versa I have more respect for great comedians than I do great dramatic actors
Wrapped up with season 5 and I now remember why I started to dislike Pam. It's really a shame that she went from the shy girl to the outspoken and somewhat of a jerk.
I never really understood what people meant by thinking Pam turned into a jerk or whatever. I mean, she essentially was a doormat her whole adult life to Roy and then came into her own after she left him. Idk, I don't see it.
Just a huge change from the way she was to the was she became. It all started once she became a sales person and had this false sense of entitlement; she had no experience yet demanded to be brought into a position she had no knowledge of. Then she gets on Jim's ass for leaving even though she left previously.
Hmm. No. Person shoe horning her way into a position they for which they are not qualified. Also being a complete hypocrite regarding their spouse's decisions.
Agreed Also it's a little different when Pam leaves pre-marriage and kids and Jim leaves post-marriage and kid
